OFFICIAL Jacksonville, Fl Events/Chat/Misc Thread
I just remembered that I probably need to get the battery charged up again too, so I'll do that before Sunday.
well like you said, you had problems getting it started 3-4 years ago so its hard to say how long it will take. I will say that checking things and changing fluids shouldn't to long, an hour at most. but if she won't start then comes the troubleshooting.
what time do you feel like starting Sunday?
Make sure you drain ALL the old gas before putting in fresh gas.
I'd replace the old battery. It's probably trash and you will most likely need to turn the motor over a lot while diagnosing issues.

And we definitely had to turn it over a million times....5 hours later with ondabirdhouse, junito1 on the phone, Norman at Advanced Auto (did my carb to efi swap 4 years ago) and hundreds of adjustments, She's ALIVE!
Next Sunday is a clutch & brake fluid replacement flushes, as well as the whole reason I initially stopped driving it years ago...
figuring out why the headlights won't come on.
After that, a good scrub down inside and out, and she'll be ready for the rode again
Brakes and Clutch are now flushed and good to go!
After we opened up the headlight housing, Adam realized the harness connector to the light bulb was fried...as he was pulling on it to try and unplug it, the other headlight came on...but it started smoking.
So we're getting new harness connectors and maybe some bulbs to replace all that Wednesday.
Maybe we'll actually get her on the road this week.
BTW, anyone know how to get a stripped lug nut off?

Not that I know of. I met a few of the guys while working on Matt's 2nd Gen. The RX community is kind of sad. You can go to a JMOC (Jax Mazda Owners Club) meet but its nothing but Mazdaspeed 3's. Thats why I stopped going...great group of People but I don't know **** about the MS3 other than its slower then a 7 and front wheel drive
It would be nice to have a Meet and Eat...but My & is still down

Yea it's it great shape minus the common FD issues, tach/speedo out, clear coat is disappearing, interior is flawless even has a perfect map pocket door lol, exterior needs re-painting like I said engine runs great has the typical 3k hesitation but other than that ice cold A/C and everything works, I need a stock radio however maybe someone has one in jax?
Nice car. My first FD was stock when I bought it. It's funny how quiet and smooth rev'ing those cars are from the factory. I imagine its pretty hard to find decent original cars now.
It just needs a little buffing and a ls motor.

I dunno if I'll go the LS route again, I'm very familiar with it, but my 280z became a head ache really.... Fast as crap but old chassis and hard to find parts made it not to fun...
Don't ruin it with an ls swap. There are a few things you can do to fix the 3k hesitation and all the other things. When did you buy this because I regularly see a VR fd in the mornings going west on JTB.
I'm envious of you interior. Mine needs work. I'm planning on plasti-dipping mine until I can save up and paint mine myself at NAS Jax. If you every need help working on let me know.

I like rotaries, but LOL @ keeping the rotary over LS1 to avoid headaches.
Yea I've read up on the hesitation stuff, I have no intention of swapping it I just gotta start digging into the car really, and thanks I'll use ya when it come to tech knowledge if ya want PM me your number we can meet up for cars and coffee if you want idk.
Yep that was my Z, fun *** car but a lot to handle had a lot invested and it became scary to drive around I was always worrying if someone would hit it or any other type of damage, they're getting very hard to come by these days in decent shape

As birdhouse said, there are some simple reliability mods you'll want to do for sure.
I'd probably start buy ordering or making a replacement air separation tank, installing a boost gauge, and replacing the stock intercooler couplings. I cant remember what size the couplers are, but if they are 3", I have a bunch of silicone ones sitting in a box. I can give you a good price on a few if you're interested.
You'll want the boost gauge so you can minimally check the sequential boost pattern. (ive never been a fan of the stock sequentials)
I'd put a downpipe on it too to get rid of the precat. It will keep things cooler and give you a few hp. I'm PRETTY sure i saw one at a friend's place a few weeks ago. I can check if you're interested.
I'll be at Cars and Coffee tomorrow if the weather holds up.
Definitely say hi if you're there. I have a cym with ccw's.
