New RX7 In NC

Just got my hands on a 87 GXL. Got it for 450 bux. Drive it home from Charlotte to clemmons nc. Car ran good then got hot when i got it home and the overflow filled up. Gotta start trouble shooting that. Plans are to clean the car up get the interior and body right and then get a turbo II motor or do the v8 swap. Id like to do the turbo II but its gonna come down to money to what swap is more cost effective.

Here are some pics.

Go V8 bro. Do it right and you'll be able to walk the dog on everyone on this forum who is telling you not to. At half throttle and his fat-*** mom in the passenger seat, you'll be able to wizz past your buddy's WRX so fast it'll spin his hat straight.

I'm not bashing a rotary, but if you want something that's scary fast, literally be able to scare you and the people who ride with you, good on gas (>25mph on the hiway), >300hp/300lbs tq right out of the box with a plentiful bolt-on mod market, able to walk into Autozone and come out the same day with the parts you need to work on it, get kicked out of your local strip because of no roll cage (on a car you drove to the track), leave there and take it to an autocross or road course, and to have the coolest conversation piece in town, then you need a V8. Granted, rotarys can do some of that, but I hope you've got >$5k in your pocket, and another $2k for a rebuild everytime you pop it.

Rotaries are fine, but really, I've got about $1300 worth of mods on my LS1 and the last time I was clocked, I did 0-60 in 3.2 secs; 0-100-0 in <11secs; 410hp/399tq to the ground. That's with full interior and power steering. And every rotary guy that I take for a ride come back with the biggest smile on their face.

Search youtube for RXSevin, I've got a few things up there.

I <3 rotary and v8. But if I found a nicely priced LS1 when I had the cash id grab it in a minute .

hey M62 Power, its your car...put what ever motor into it you want...as long as it keeps you happy. Me and Eat-Pez love V8s, others like the rotaries...there are plenty of threads that argue the good points and bad points of each motor, but in the end, it comes down to what do YOU want to do with YOUR car?

JWteknix, I have every right to be here, I'm an RX-7 owner and I do live in the South East!!! so what if my '93 has an LT1 in it?!?!? big deal, just a car, just a motor...so yeah, I'm staying right here...

Precisely. M62 Power, do what you want, its your car. But whatever route you take, take the time to do it right and you will have a nice car that you can love and enjoy and be damn proud of it.

JWteknix - Its his car, he can do what he wants with it. Personally, i stick to the rotaries, but just because he wants to put a v8 in his RX-7 doesnt make him any better OR any worse of an RX-7 owner. It just means that he customized HIS car to make it the way HE wants.

what's up man, this is zac fro ImportsNC. i go by the same username on there too i have a v8 FB and have been thru many rotaries. i still get more total enjoyment out of my turbo rotary setups. the v8 was cool at first but it has it's quirks too.

just go with what fits your budget best.. v8 swaps aren't as cheap as alot of people make them out to be.

All cars can be as cheap or expensive as you want them to be. I did a SBC/FC swap once for $2000, including the price of the car.

This engine

went into this car

And for ~$8500, I got this engine

my current build is up to just over $7k for my 383 LT1 in my '93....that DOES NOT INCLUDE THE SWAP STUFF! I never did sit down and figure up how much i spent to sawp the car to the LT1 originally. The $7K is the current modification...and includes bellhousing, transmission rebuilds and some suspension work. Motor parts and work hasn't broken $5k yet for the 383.

its just where u want to spend ur money and all...

im going to have a little over 2k to spend on a motor set up. I think ill prolly stay away from the v8 with that money, i dont think i can have what i want on that budget. but i have found a turbo II with Motor
Transmission
ECU
Turbo
MAFS
Power Steering Pump
AC compressor
Alternator
Starter
Intake Manifold
Turbo Manifold

for 1k. then i can get a FMIC and i got a deal on a haltech from a friend. so i might go that route

i have an s4 T2 motor + trans + wiring + ecu + nearly everything else you need for a swap...motor was pulled our running but has sat for several months. I would suggest a rebuild on it...i would be happy to get $750 out of them...includes a stage 3 clutch as well...

Buy it, take the engine, tranny, harness, ECU and whatever else you want, and I'll buy the roller from you as long as it includes a title, interior, rear end and hood ... actually, the hood is negotiable.
