Someone I know was arrested two days ago and was charged with possesion of firearm in the state of florida.
Heres his stats:
18 yrs old Male
clean adult record
arrest was not in a crime ,routine stop
He has a court date a month from today and he is out on bond.
Has anyone experienced this or knows a case like this? What is he looking for 1st time offense and should he use a public defender. I advise to get a lawyer.
Please dont post your negative comments because I will do them for you- YES HE WAS A IDIOT ,SHOULD OF NEVER CARRIED IT, HAS NO REASON, DUMBASS, ETC.....

As above, depends on county how bad they want to enforce it. I don't think loaded or unloaded matters as it is assumed loaded by the officer until they clear it.
Hand gun or rifle?
Was it found in the car with 3 step process to access it? or was it on his person?
Is it registered to him? Even if not in this state?
Lots of ways the prosecutor can attack this. If your friend was cool with the cop, has a clean record, he will probably just end up with a fine and a record.
If the gun was found to be stolen or involved in another crime then that is totally different.
I'd get a lawyer...a local one if possible cause they will know the judges, other lawyers, etc and that will all help to hopefully neutralize judge
