Need help...local ATL guys

Well long story short, i went to pick up the FD from the body shop last night after paint and it failed me in their parking lot (i was their from 9pm-4am trying to bring it to life ). Seems like Coolant seals gave up, but i am still learning Rotaries. Oil was foamed up, and after several flushes and coolant being low, oil was still foaming up badly (like milkshake) after i added water in coolant reservoir. Car war running perfect before dropping off.

I know there are few Rotary gurus that work on them out of a shops. I just spent good chunk previously servicing the motor and now good bit on paint to make this car perfect. Seeing if some of you guys RX& community will be willing to help, can come look at the car and tell me exactly, help me pull the motor and help me re-install it so i can save some on labor after i get motor rebuilt (beer/NOS energy drinks/Pizza on me). I am trying my best to keep this car and make a perfect OEM example, but keep on running into problems with it . Here' another thread that has more info:

Here's my dateline of the car.

I dont mind throwing in some help if you need it. Ive done 2 motor remove/installs but have no experience with rebuilding engines. I know of at least 3 reputable guys locally that I would have mine done at if it were me.

Maybe we can get a group of people to come help and knock it out.

If you decide to have a motor built call Roland with North GA Speed Shop, 770-900-9009

Maybe to get back on the road just buy a used short block and drop it in...then take you time and rebuild your motor?

You should be able to handle it easy since you have done an engine out already.

I cant remember can you confirm coolant seals with a pressure test on the rad cap? The pressure tester tool is pretty cheap. How about a compression check? You could just get a go no go with a cheap piston checker....Again not 100% if that will show you coolant seals but will give you an indication on a real bad compression...might eliminate some possibilities.

I haven't pressure tested the coolant system and compression tested the motor yet. I am gonna tow the car to Lethal Performane or Mazcare unless someone has those tools and can check the car in gwinnett. If you'd like i can compensate you for you gas/time.

Thanks for coming out and helping. Great and very helpful guy.

Roland came out and did a compression test on the motor. Bad news, motor is done @ 29k (it was very healthy prior). Compression was 4.x for rear and 5.x for front so time for a rebuild.

I will be bringing the car back home tomorrow or friday then plannin on pulling the motor out starting Sunday so i can save some on pulling and putting in the motor. Let me know who can come to lent a helping hand since i don't know much about what going on in there lol. Any kind of help will be really appreciated, beer, pizza, taco bell, NOS Drinks on me .

Allen and Charlie have been really helpful ever since i bought the car. They were the first ones to lay hands on the car when i bought it. I am sure they do quality work, but their pricing is way out of my range.

So, you say you got it back from the body shop....went to drive away and suddenly your car is left with a blown motor?

Are you sure that the guys at the body shop didn't have their fun with it and maybe beat the **** out of it with no heat in the engine? I'm all for random failures, but it does sound a bit fishy..

Whats the plan on the new motor? Have that one rebuilt? Or are you going to try to find a short block?

I didn't even drive it, it was already shot when i went to pick it up. I crancked it and trouble. I am 100% sure it's shops fault for the damage, but i talked to few shops (Mazcare, Lethal), my Lawyer both said 50/50 shot of winning the case, not a easy one to prove when these motors are known to crap out for any given reason. I am guessin all they'll need is a letter from a reputable shot sayin so and empty handed i'll sit. I am sure then i'll be looking at a counter suit from them also. Shitty situation i am in.

I talked to Roland and he also said its seems very fishy for a very healthy motor to go out within few miles just like that. BTW they drove the car 10+ miles, but denying that they. They failed to provide a written estimate to me when i dropped the car off and even after i asked for week later.

It's a hit or miss. Knowing what they did they are being VERY helpful, towing the car for to anywhere i want and fixing the paint in case it gets messed up during engine work. Heavy discounts on any future work.

Either a fresh motor or going to rebuild this one.

See, this sounds like bullshit to me. Anytime I leave my car anywhere for any reason, even when I got my tires mounted by a guy's shop who I know and trust, I KNOW my odometer reading at any given time basically... Any joy riding and I'd be pissed.

Given that it's an FD, the 'iconic' RX-7 (The one everyone knows as an RX-7), I'm sure they probably figured you wouldn't notice a few miles of joy riding. I also bet you that they didn't waste any time flogging the **** out of the car right after startup, and shut it down without giving time for it to cool off a bit afterwards. My guess is they over-revved it, overheated it, and didn't notice...

In my opinion, maybe the motor wasn't in flawless condition to begin with. Maybe the cooling system was badly corroded internally or whatever and these guys simply pushed it over the edge from ignorant abuse.

I'm going to shut up now, but I'd at least take it to small claims.
