Question NC Emissions tests?

I am about to get my 88 rx7 N/a inspected sometime this week, and it will be the first time I go through North Carolina's inspection. I was told that there are two test, saftey and emissions, and that because the 7 is so old it might be exempt from emissions. Can someone from NC confirm or deny this? And if not, should I be worried about passing emissions with this car? Exhaust is bone stock, but still like 20 years old? Any help is appreciated.

I work at a NC Inspection station, and as long as the cat and mufflers are still on it and there are no obvious holes or leaks in the system you should be fine. Also if there is window tint on the car, it must be at least 35% light transmit and they will usually check it if it appears dark. Dont worry about an emissions inspection, its for OBDII cars only...96 and up. OH and make sure the tires have tread the entire surface of tire (no slick spots, wires showing, etc) because they will not inspect it. If all that checks good, $9.10 and you get a yellow sticker.
