Directions from Orlando Area to The Tower Shops in Davie, FL
The following are the Mapquest directions from the Orlando area to The Tower Shops in Davie, FL..
The other cars will be there at 9:45 AM on Saturday March 25th. Kevin Tremblay from Quebec, Canada will be there in Red FD.. They will be parked by the Arby's restaurant
I am not familiar with the Orlando area so I did a search and I am using as a starting point the Orlando Rowing Society but I believe that who is from Central Florida would know the surrounding area and expressways.
The Tower Shops is a prime location for Rotary get togethers... You will see some 20 or so Mazda RX's
START: Orlando Area Rowing Society: 407-876-9037
3317 Maguire Blvd, Orlando, FL 32803, US
END: Tower Shops Management: 954-473-9619
1904 S University Dr, Davie, FL 33324, US (University Dr & SR 595 Expwy)
Total Est. Time: 3 hours, 22 minutes Total Est. Distance: 219.33 miles
1:Start out going SOUTHWEST on MAGUIRE BLVD toward EXECUTIVE CENTER DR.
2:Turn RIGHT onto E COLONIAL DR / FL-50 / JOHN CHENEY HWY. Continue to follow E COLONIAL DR / FL-50.
3:Merge onto I-4 W.
4:Merge onto FLORIDA'S TURNPIKE S via EXIT 77 toward MIAMI (Portions toll). 205.4 miles
5:Merge onto I-595 W via EXIT 54.
6:Merge onto FL-84 W via EXIT 5 toward SR-817 / UNIVERSITY DR.
7:Turn LEFT onto S UNIVERSITY DR / FL-817 S.
8:Make a U-TURN at VALENCIA DR onto S UNIVERSITY DR / FL-817 N.
9:End at Tower Shops Management
1904 S University Dr, Davie, FL 33324, US
I RECOMMEND TO HAVE TWO WAY RADIOS.. TUNE TO CHANNEL 7 SUB 11
It is what we use out here as you might see other Rotary Cars on the road about the same time..Some may communicate possible speed traps or if some cop is hiding in the bushes somewhere. there will a few people videotaping the Caravan ride and a DVD will be produced to be distributed to all the Rotary Owners that participated.
After Towers the following directions are to the Homestead Miami Speedway
You take Turnpike South. You will pass two tolls from that point. The first will be after the SW 40th ST (Bird Road Toll Plaza) exit. The second is after the Cutler ridge Exit (SW 211th ST???)
After this toll you will take the third exit (I think it is exit #16) It will say SW 137th Ave Speedway BLVD. You will make your left at the light (south).
Continue on this road until you run into HMS. You won't miss it.
Now, depending on what time you get there. You may not be able to get to where you need to be easily. The cops are "programed" to be asses and not very helpfull. You will also run into traffic.
If you get lost. Our numbers are:
Alex Cisneros 305-216-2854.
Val "Preacher" 786-286-3351

Hey guys, is there any chance that I can ride down to Homestead in the caravan. At the present moment I own a Mazda Miata. It seems that the miata group cant get there act together to join our fellow Mazda brothers to meet and support two great cars in existence. I have been into rotary since the early 80,S and last year had to sell my beloved 1st gen . Now I am into auto crossing with my miata , but I still enjoy seeing my rotary heads out there tearing up the track.

Summary of Yesterdays Grand Prix of Miami
This was such an awesome event. It was great to see how many Rotaries showed up and that everyone had a good time.
I called everyone but everyone for this event as many of you know how intense I get about calling people. I tell you that I have to be this way so these get togethers can happen.
First, I would like to thank AlexCisneros for organizing the event and for fellow 7 owners Richard and Burt 'RotorDrifter' giving him a hand with the corral parking of the 7's & 8's.
Kevin 'NOFEAR99' and Colin 'Integral' drove down from Boca and met up with the Broward guys 'Papsmagu', 'Sgesel', TII 10AE, Russ II, Rick V, Geo12080, DVLS-7, Leatherface24, Mazdapros, and some that i cant remember met at Towers and then drove to Southland Mall JC Penney Parking lot to meet us PREACHER, Kandela, Maza Mazda, TwEaK, fc3s-gxl, Syncro, Arjenis, AICRotary2, Kuang, VILBABY,Tito, SlickRC, Volatil as we cruised down to HMS. Outkast, luiml73, LWNSLW, Carlos CLR Motorsports, and Jef Geis got there sometime after It started off nicely but then due to lack of communication some nine 7's didnt make the green light and we got separated from the pack. That is why I stress the importance of having two way radios and just Man keeping an eye on the pack so we can Caravan together. It was Chaos !
RobRXRay and 1300cc Tuner from CENFLA RX CLUB drove down from Orlando and met up with Lucky7305, RedRum7Klr, The Man, and AirKolors at HMS.
Also Shayne's Suzuki Rotary Motorcycle was also a highlight as many people approached it.
There were some RX-8's already there like KYLiquid, Jeff 'DeltaV', DamnYankee, Mantis showed up a little later, Raymull I believe was there who I wanted to say Hello to but couldnt find him. Scott from Central Florida, Kevin from Central FL and some other RX-8 owners. Sadly enough our local RX-8 owners did not show which would have been great to have them be a part of this event. All in all there were about 10-12 RX-8's and I tried my best to meet all of them. Hey Mantis.. where can I get those letters to personalize my 7 ?
All the cars were parked in their respective categories ,, that is the 1st gens, 2nd gens, 3rd gens, and RX-8's. We had a chance to get to know one another but as it always happens the groups are somewhat divided where the 8's kept with their pack and 7's with theirs. I have to deter that kind of attitude because after all we are all Rotaries and as such we are of the same community so please let's all try to get to know each other and be a Rotary family.
There were other cars there such as the BMW Club, EVO, and some others which most of us didnt really care about.. After all.. It's all about the Rotary.
The Chalet offered some food such as Burgers and Hot dogs with Sodas in their comfortable tents. There were others outfits there as well.
The Paddock pass allowed us to get up close and personal with the drivers and of course getting close to touch some of the cars.
Gene Simmons from KISS was there.. I got his autograph.. Guy was pretty funny... I told him that I remembered his tongue being quite long and he replied: " It still is and I still get to use as well..." I wonder what he meant by that... Hmmmm.... I grew up listening to KISS... and if you did also then you are probably about 40 years young.
The Parade Lap took place at approximately 5:36 PM with all the Rotaries in order of years starting with the 1st gens to the RX-8. It was one lap although it left me with the desire to take a second one. I believe the exciting part for me was the first part where if you didnt keep your car going fast enough it would drop down closer to inner track area. Just leaning like that on the outer bank was a great feeling. Its too bad that we werent allowed to go any faster ... really too bad. But all in all getting a chance to be on the track and showing off the Rotaries in front of the people sitting in the grandstands was great.
There were two RX-8's that raced yesterday one white one #70 belonging to Speedsource and #26 ? belonging to Goldin in Black/Red. The Speedsource #70 Mazda RX-8 with its 3-Rotor powerplant took 2nd Place in the GT Class... it was great to see that a Rotor was recognized amidst the Porsches and BMW's.
The Main Race was at about 6:30 PM and it ended sometime close to 10:00 PM I believe.. I cant remember too well... tired.
We headed out to Applebees ... well rather some of us and had a great time there to end the day....
We only actually had one complaint within the rotary group. I addressed the issue and we moved on. I cant really expect that everyone is not going to behave... most of us did but at times It is just something that we cant avoid. So I ask of all of you to please try to behave so we dont **** anyone off as it was the case with one of the Rotary owners. I am not going to mention the individual who lodged the complaint and brought it to my attention because I dont want any Sibling Rivalry amongst the Rotaries. At least lets try on any future events to just get along and behave accordingly.
One last note... to end the Drama between the 8's and the 7's as I attempted to yesterday when I approached Mantis from Orlando area. I want to apologize for being harsh with my posts on the RX8 forum. I tried locating Raymull to have a word with him as well and I did mention it to Jeff 'DeltaV' ? that I was looking for him. I dont know if he got that message but I would have liked for him to have approached me.
I want to thank everyone who attended this event ,keeping the peace and making this HMS Grand Prix event as successfully exciting as it could be.
I am looking forward to our next meeting of Rotaries ....
