Looking for a little help in GAINESVILLE

ok.... i know some of the gainesville guys (jack, tom and greg mostly), but i would like to meet more! Anyways...... I will be working on swapping the non functing motor out of her 1995 FD and dropping in a somewhat fresh one. In the process some upgraded parts will be going in (intercooler, radiator, fresh hoses and so on). I am asking for help with this. I am a stranger to the inter workings of the rx-7's and would love some knowledgable help. I have a 5 speed tranny and a few other misc parts (as well as a FD block assembly) to offer as partical payment for help through this process!

please PM this account (it is my wifes) or feel free to email us.

I will be working on the car this tuesday wednesday and thursday 8/22-8/24

-thanks in advance
-Sam and melissa

You'll have better luck posting this thread in the correct section of the forum, namely the SouthEast regional section https://www.rx7club.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35

I go to UF too!
We decided to pay Quinn to do it for us. We started removing the air box and some hoses, and decided it looks a little too scary down there for our very limited FD knowledge! Thanks for all the help though.

The front housing has 100 psi, and the rear has 60....so, some of it is in good shape...just fyi.
I don't really have a use for it other than possibly making a clock out of the rotor. What would you want to pay for it?

Hey man, I think I saw you. Is your FD up at Holton Auto being worked on? I drove past and thought it was odd seeing a white FD, I've only seen the local red one. Blamed the new students for brightening the scenery Seems I was right. I drive a faded black na FC. I don't know much but I love the cars and would be willing to lead some elbow grease.

I'm a female...yes it's at holton...I've lived in Gville for and been going to school for 4 years now (I don't go away for summers), so I'm not a new student, but I just got my FD in May. I don't know much either; that's why we initially wanted to do the work outselves. Thanks though. I'm sure we'll need help in the future...after all it is an FD.

Lol, sorry, just a figure of speech. I know you'll enjoy the car, you won't however enjoy the bill Holton's going to hit you with lol. Good luck friend.

I can't say that i know what he's chaging for the motor swap....but I can garuntee you it won't be any where near what the dealership or any other shop would charge for a motor pull and install.
BTW....those were the best looking turbo's I've seen for a car with that kind of milage.

Holton has been nothing but extreamly helpful! Quinn and Derek are fantastic. I have never had a mechanic go to the lengths they have gone to acomidate our needs as well as do things we ask to be done! They are EXTREAMLY reasonable when you consider all the knowledge that the two of them bring to the table. I know Quinn charges ~5k for a full 0 miles mazda reman replacement with a 1 year unconditional warrenty! Since we brought most of the parts as well as the engine we are simply paying for labor! I will say that this bill is going to be about $1700 less then i expected to pay some one for this kind of work! I strongly recomend anyone in or around gainesville to look into this shop for any of their RX-7 needs. Not once has he said i need a new anything........ they are not trying to rip me off in any way, nor are they trying to tell me parts are in bad shape. In fact he called me to tell me that the motor i brought for the swap was in GREAT shape and holding perfect compression.... now thats an honest mechanic!

Did you look at those manifolds? They were perfect..... i was absolutly shocked at the condition of all the components under the hood. This car was well taken care of and from the looks of things hardly ever boosted! Turbos looked basically brand new... I am so happy with the way things are going at this point! Thanks for being there with the turbo offer if i needed them... enjoy the tranny and i hope it helps!

I'll give you $200 picked up? Otherwise I guess if you'd part it out I'll take the stock crank pulley.

Quinn is deffinately the place to go if you need help with things that can't be done in the drive way. He's got one of the few shops around that is always full of cars being worked on.
