Hi. I'm new here.

heyo

my name is rich and i'm in the process of getting a '93 FD Touring. i've been in love with these things since i first saw one back in high school (my bud's dad had a red one, 400ish hp) and i have wanted one ever since. this will be my girl-on-the-side, my daily is an '05 STi (slightly modified but slowly getting more done). i figure between a boxer and a wankel, i've got a pretty damn good setup. i've done a lot of research, but not nearly enough, so if anyone has any words of wisdom feel free to send them my way.

plan is to pull the engine and repaint the car. while the engine's out i'm going to replace all the hoses with either silicone or viton. i'll be putting in an aluminum AST, and sticking a braille battery in the back as well. the car has a few other things that will be fixed at the same time. from there, we'll see where it goes...

Have a compression check done to be on the safe side. Add a boost gauge if it doesn't already have one. I know your pulling the engine to paint the car, but check the compression before you buy it. Hate for another person to buy someone elses ragged out car and find out 2 weeks later it's a tired, worn out engine.

i'm flying out to texas to buy the car in person (not fond of buying something without seeing it first) on tuesday. i'll be shipping it back to georgia wednesday and i'll have it whenever it arrives. i'll be paying $7000, and the car has 49,000 miles i'll put up pics when it gets here.

as for the price, the guy says the car runs just fine, but there are a lot of small issues (the usual slight dings, a missing headlight cover, bad antenna motor, bad window switch, needs a new alternator). it won't be hard to fix all of it, but it'll add up pretty quick, so that's the main reason for the nice price.

just an update: i bought the car, so i am now the newest owner of an RX-7!!! i spent forever just staring at it, soooo beautiful. it handles very very well (i'm extremely impressed) and runs very smoothly. it'll be shipped back to georgia soon, and i'll be doing a little work on it to get it up to par. i'll be replacing the hoses with viton while i'm at it, too. i'll put up pics after it gets shipped to ga.

Since you already bought it, hopefully you did the compression check before hand. If not, did it have a boost gauge already and if so, what vacuum was it pulling? If it was 15 or less on a stock port engine then your looking at an engine on the decline and will be replacing it soon, depending on how much you drive it. Pre-mix about 4 oz of 2 stroke oil at fill up, helps the apex stay lubricated since the consensus going back to the mid 90's was the stock oil metering isn't adding enough.

good luck on the car, replacing the vacuum lines and possibly all check valves will viton definitely add insurance to the turbo problems, just make sure you take your time studying the vacuum plumbing diagram, it is quite amazing.
I recently start using the premix 2 stroke oil and notice there are 2 different types, the synthetic 2 stroke vs the regular 2 stroke oil. I just used the castrol synthetic 2 stroke and do the 1:100 ratio with my working OMP, do you think it is overkill?

unfortunately, no, i didn't get the compression check done. however, the car drove so smoothly that i couldn't feel a single issue. the car has been well maintained and barely driven (49k miles on a '93). the boost was steady and responsive and the 4500 rpm switch was quick and painless. i'll look into the 2 stroke oil mix, where can i get it and what type/brand/etc do you recommend?

i have a couple different diagrams saved and i'll be printing them off and using them as a guide while i do it. i'm not in too much of a rush, i'd rather get it done right than half-*** it and something go wrong.
