Great new rotary shop in NW florida

I found a new local shop around me in the NW Florida area thought I would check it out. The great news is they are a rotary shop. So I decided to take a drive and talk to them and see what they do meet the people working there. I showed up and talked to the owner Chris Scott a little about what they are doing and the people working there.

They just moved into there new shop on there land and were quite busy just organizing the place and building stuff when I was there. They had a crap load of stuff to put away and build it was funny. I didn’t want to take up to much time so they could get back to work. The new shop they are in now is a 25ft by 50ft building and 30ft tall. This was apparently where all the work was done it can fit 4 cars with all of them working and the tools, it was neat. Up top in the rafter they had sheeted off and held all the parts to the cars and motors and so on sectioned off and labeled per car VIN and customer name. I said well where do you build motors? So he showed me a 12x16ft climate controlled clean room just for engine building. Had a nice 13b on the stand and parts on the SS bench being put together. So i showed him my engine in the back of my intrepid and we put it on a stand and started talking about all the cool performance things to do with it. So after that I said if there is another part thats going up.

So we talked about there 30x60ft building down the road that is a machine shop with lathes, welders, plasma cutters, and drill presses and all there other machine shop supplies for fabricating. I was like oh wow so you can do anything? He said you bet we can.

I said what are you planning on to add? Chris replied we are going to add onto this building another 75x50ft range. The addition will allows us to add a show room and customer service center and to separate all the bays. After we do this we will be able to have independent bays for body work, painting, disassembly, rebuilding, repairs, and drivelines. The added structuring will allow the shop to be immensely more productive and organized to ensure top quality products. We will also be climate controlling all of the shops to stay cool in summer warm in winter and keep vital parts safe and clean.

I found that it is Chris and his Dad Mark and a few close friends. I noticed the ASE certifications on the wall and asked. Well Mark has been building motors for over 35yrs they said with a load of ASE certifications like transitions and building and electronics and several more. He also went on to talk about his career as the engine builder for many race teams and titles the team won such as the Mickey Franklin hydroplane boat team in south FL.

Brad was one of Chris middle school friends so he said they have been friends for many years. Apparently Brad is there head machinist and Chris and Brad work together over at the machine shop to design new parts for there applications. I asked what would you fabricate and he said everything you can imagine. You machine a lot of stuff the 6pt turbos? They did fabricate full intake manifolds for them and retimed the port system. Using a machine shop gives us the ability to design independent runner lengths to optimize low and high rpm tuning. When we do engine swaps and custom work many times brackets and braces all need to be fabricated on the mills and lathes.

One of the other guys Allen who comes in does the major body work and painting. Well I found out he was only 24 and is ASE and Icar-Gold certified! Apparently he has been putting out some of the badass multi staged paint jobs over there and even repairing heavy collision damage to some RX-7’s that come in.

I asked Chris what he was doing and he told me I build stuff lol. Yeah well basically he does whatever needs done and run the place. He is usually busy building motors and fabricating stuff for the cars and adaptors FMIC kits all that stuff, then running around labeling all the parts off cars and organizing them in the loft. Then having to walk around and inspect all the work before during and after personally to make sure there is no errors mistakes and every inch of the work performed in the shop is 100% top quality perfection. He said "I will not settle for anything less then the best work produced from my shop and I stand by that."

So I'll be stoping by there alot now since all the other rotary shops are down in miami and the dealer is not even an option because they suck and charge for nothing. So stop by there and show some love for the rotary coming from the past and into the future.

They even got an online link.
