Good rotary shops in/around charleston?

Looks like I'm going to be picking up an FD pretty soon, and it's gonna need some work.

Any good shops that you'd trust near a FD near here or is the closest one RX7 world in Rock Hill?

Dregg does good work. Personally I do my own work on rotaries. What re you looking to have done? I'm in the area and wouldn't mind helping you out. Plus. there is a pretty good community in the area as well.

Depending on the type of work you need done, I have a shop to recommend. I used to work there before joining the navy. If it's performance work, they don't do it, but I know of individuals that will. I can tell you all the places you DON'T want to go though.

For general automotive work, if you don't want to get screwed, take your car to Hanahan Automotive. I know everyone that works there, and they all do VERY meticulous work. Nothing shady goes on in that shop, and they will NOT sell you something that you don't need. Let me know what kind of work you'll need, and I'll direct you to where you should go. Just don't take your FD to showzone.... please don't take it to showzone. If you want the latest and greatest in undercar neons and sound systems, you're 17, and love the fast and furious series, then you should go there. Otherwise, stay away from them. They're tards.

I'm just having some issues with my first FD.

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/white-smoke-rebuilt-engine-turbo-2k-880462/

I think the white smoke might've gone away after some driving today, but now my check engine light is on, and I have a boost leak. Also that engine noise scares me. The stock gauges also don't work.

Really I just need a good reliable place to take the car in case I need someone to look at it. I can't always take it up to Dregg since he is moving in a few weeks, and a nice local place to check out little things here and there would be nice.

Dregg is about 4 hours away but I'm thinking about going up to him if no one else can fix it locally.

I used to use Showzone as my main shop for work simply because I couldn't find any other shops, but I'm looking for a new shop for obvious reasons.

And for what it's worth, I'm barely 20, and quite adore the fast and furious movies haha.

Small update...

I drove the car to work today, and the clutch kinda felt weird but I didn't think anything of it.

Got in the car to drive home and the clutch pedal fell to the floor and just stayed there with no force.

It wouldn't engage at all, so it's being towed to hanahan automotive...hopefully they can fix some of the other issues I'm having.

So far this car has been one big expensive headache...I traded such a good car for this mess...

that smokes doesnt look that bad to me. if it is blueish, chances are the turbos just need a rebuild. as for the clutch problem, it could just be the hydralics, easy fix

sigh...

I have some beef with showzone for what they did to a friend of mine. They pride themselves in being the 240sx specialist, but completely raped my good friend when he had the engine replaced in his '89. It was a terrible job that I wouldn't even expect from joe backyard, not to mention they stole parts. They shouldn't be allowed to put their damn hands on a car like an FD.

gxl90rx7 is right, it's probably hydraulic related. If not, the FD has a pull style clutch, and the fork could have become separated somehow. Good luck! You own a white elephant. They're fun to look at, but expensive to own.

I also have to agree Showzone is not the best place to take any car let alone an FD.

Yeah, I was never happy with showzone, but they were the "240" guys and I used to drive a SR 240. They never did any bad work on mine, but I was still aware of the rep so I was always cautious.

I talked to Hanahan automotive today. It has a bad master clutch cylinder, and one of the vacuum lines to the fuel pressure regulator fell off.

They want 400 to do the Master Clutch Cylinder replacement, which is a bit high but I can live.

However, they want 650 to fix the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator. I feel kinda scammed on that one. I don't really want to drive the car much without the fuel pressure regulator hooked up, but 650 to replace a vacuum line is practically theft.

And for what it's worth, I used to daily drive a 500 WHP 300ZX Twin Turbo so I'm not exactly a stranger to costly car maintenance...I just feel kinda pissed that I traded it for this :/

when you own an rx-7 you have to start learning how to do the work yourself or your wallet will get empty real fast.

nopi online has clutch hydraulics for pretty cheap. im sure the job is not worth $400. its probably $650 for the vacuum line replacement becuase of all the rats nest of emissions system.. there are guides on the forum on how to simplify it down to just a few lines, making it quite a bit easier to remove te intake manifold and hook everything back up in the future. converting the turbos to non-sequential will also simplify the vacuum lines

here is a good guide to FD vacuum system:

Yeah...I just read a lot of sites saying expect to pay 4-500 for a quality shop to do a FULL vacuum line replacement, so I was kinda taken back to pay 650 for one line...

After talking it over AGreen it sounds like everything is in line, sorry for the prima donna breakdown there...

I've only had the car for 2 days, and I've only driven it once since I bought it, and that was for about 5 minutes and that's when all of this happened, so you can imagine my frustration considering I traded one of the nicest Z's in the country just to have this happen

HATS said the FPR was leaking fuel straight on the exhaust. It was $650 for a new Mazda OEM FPR, an intake gasket set (IDK if Mazda sells just the UIM gasket alone) and 3.4 hours of labor, plus all the extra cleaners, shop fees, vacuum tubing, etc that they'd need.

^COULDN'T BE MORE TRUE!!!

Like I told him; a car that hasn't been sold in the US for at least 15 years, not very many were made, and all the parts are special to it, it's going to cost a good bit to get serviced. I'm sure he's aware of this now

That SR20-powered 240sx you drove, it wasn't silver with silvia badges and a single muffler w/dual exit... was it? I went to trident technical with a guy that drove one, and it was actually pretty nice!

Naw, mine was a clean white one with a blue SR.

It was pretty undercover, stock body stock rims...but it hit 12's in the 1/4.

Fun little cars...but I think the FD is a good upgrade.
