Good beer to be found in Jacksonville FL or in north FL/South GA at all?

Well, my new fave brew, Bridgeport IPA that I can find at the food lion near me isnt officially available in FL.

Eh, I figure, I could order it I bet. Maybe FLs just too redneckey to like an IPA? But there is enough growth and influx of people with money (and hopefully TASTE) lately that it should start to change.

But then I discover Florida doesnt allow direct imports into FL of beer! Gotta love trade laws and tax money from wholesalers, bla bla bla. Not that I wouldnt mind paying a "line Bush's pockets tax" to get something good to drink, but I guess I dont have that option.

Soo...

Ive heard that at least Gainesville has good brew, and the typical fallbacks like Heineken, Bass, Sam Adams, ETC are there. Anyway, anyone know any good places that have good stuff, or especiailly a micro somewhere? Im moving in like a week (already loading a truck with **** but the comp goes last :P) and Id hate to think that something Ive been looking forwards to for the past 3 years would turn into a disappointment becuase of stupid laws or just a lack of taste on the part of the local yokels.

I dont mean just that particular beer, as good as it is

I mean like can you find good beer in the N FL/S GA area at all, not just that :P I guess I shoulda phrased it better.

Oh, and cos thats the only IPA Ive come across... are all IPAs all citrusey from the Cascade hops or do they use other kinds too? Still kinda new to it all, but I hope to find out more and try new things.

The one thing I really want is some stone brewery stuff like Stone Ruination or Arrogant Bastard... muaahhaha.

http://www.tampabaybrewingcompany.com/ <- AHA! AND THEY HAVE AN IPA!

Nice. Seems with money and people from the rest of the country even a redneckopolis like florida can get beer that has an IBU over 15.

No offence, but you really gotta try better brews out there.

It reeks of corn ("skunky" smell and taste) and the hopping is so low its like water compared to what I usually drink. Im also more into ales now, so a soda-ish macro lager meant for teenagers and 20 somethings to drink cheaply ain't my cup of tea no more. Maybe the last bottle of Yuengling I had was 'bad' (or someone let it warm up to make it even skunkier), but I honestly had to pour it out after giving it a try.

I'd suggest starting off with a nice bitter ale or one of the milder IPAs, maybe Guinness for a stout... unless youre comparing it to 'bud', miller, or coors, its just extremely mediocre.

Yeah, Im a beer ****, but what do you expect?
