I'm not in a rush. Still broke from the holiday's. I'll check Rock Auto. Yeah, Trix is usually expensive. I have ordered things from them over the years. Just grateful there's still some specialty all rotary parts places still left. So I support them when I can.
I'm not going to work on it until it's warmer anyway. Once I get the parts and we have a decent day of weather I'll get started.
Ya'll have a great New Year!
Thought I'd post a few RX-7 shots. Got the GS out for a ride yesterday so I made some photos. Slowly getting some new parts for both cars. Excited about some project ideas. Hope everyone is doing great!
Looks like someone got a GoPro. Nice shots. Your cars are both in really good shape. I had my vert out the other day. It needs u-joints and wheel bearings so I haven't been racing it. I need to quit putting that off.
Yeah, I got the GoPro for Christmas from my wife. I did some videos in the RX-7, 240Z and my Beetle. Mostly made a lot of pictures with it.
I got my idler arm and radiator for the '85. Going to get it installed when I have a chance. Then wheels, tires, and slight suspension upgrade will be coming up next.
Nice stuff, I have that arm on my FB. Don't forget, the bolts go all the way through the frame rail so put a wrench on each end of it. I must've sat there turning just one side for 5 minutes before I realized that
Lol, Yeah I remember your earlier post about that. So I made a mental note of it. I'll get it started when I have some extra time. And it's not 1000 degrees or pouring rain like a monsoon. Seems to be all we are getting lately. It's so damn humid I can hardly breathe outside.
Yeah, this weather sucks. It's too hot to work on anything, and too rainy to drive the vert. I bought an 8 just so I'd have something with a solid roof to play in.
I got my first gen back from the cage builder last weekend, so that project is back on. It was in Atlanta for a couple months but I think they did a stellar job. Here's some pics:
I've got a ton of work still to do, but having the safety stuff done is a big relief. It's got a NASA logbook so when I get everything else finished, it's eligible to do just about anything I'd want to do with it, from hill climbs to stage rally. Right now I'm trying to work out how to get the dash back in. I removed about 30lbs of frame and trimmed about 4 inches off each end so it would clear the cage. I'm going to reinforce it inside with fiberglass and probably make some aluminum brackets to get it bolted in place. I'm trying to retain as much as I can of the interior so it still feels like an RX-7 when I'm driving it.
That cage is wicked! Very nice job. It looks really good and should be super stiff. I'm sure it wasn't cheap. I was going to have one built in my 510 I had years ago and the price was steep. And that was back in '98 or so. Put up more pics as you progress with the car. I'd like too see them.
I got my new aluminum radiator installed. I promptly broke the coolant level sensor. It was leaking around it. So I tried to tighten it and the top broke off.
Also installed a new Moog idler arm.
And my next project for the car should arrive this week. And I'm super stoked on this. I'll post some pics as soon as package arrives.
Here's what I was waiting on. Got some BBS Mahle wheels to go on the '85. They're 15x7 ET18. I'm going to strip the lips and polish them. Them have them cleared. Getting som ewheel studs and lugs for them. And I'll get some tires once I get them refinished. Looking forward to adding these to the car. Correct bolt pattern and all!
Oooh, those will look nice. Centercaps are all there, too. Wheels are getting pretty hard to find for our lug pattern. I really need to get something wider for mine.
How do you like the Moog arm? Does your steering still have play? Even with the new arm, mine still has a couple inches of play that I can't seem to adjust out. I have a power box so it's not as adjustable.
I honestly haven't driven it since I installed it. The steering was fine but the bushings were gone. So it made a bumping noise, I kept thinking it had a busted strut. Finally found it on accident. So, I hope it doesn't have a lot of play.
I'm excited about the wheels. I've been stripping the clear off the lips. Trying to polish them up good. Possibly have them cleared but I don't see getting them super polished. I'v ebeen working on them, and it's a pain in the ***.
One had a spot someone tried to strip with something coarse and rough. Got it smoothed out some. They mainly are flaking off ( the clear coat ). The centers look pretty good and I'm not messing with them. Just going to get them as best as best as I can and not worry about having them super slick. I've got wheel studs and lugs. Just need to get the tires when I get the wheels finished up. I'll keep posting pics. This has stripper on wheel in front and back one is already finished.
I'm trying not to spend the money to finish up, hahahaha. I just need to buy some Shark Hide to seal them. And buy the tires. Then I can get them on there.
I was trying to sell some other stuff to cover my cost. But it has failed, hahaha.
But I did get some wheels for my TII a couple of months ago. I'll change them out later. I'm about to take it to the shop so we can get it broken down and get the rebuild started.
Meanwhile, here's some pics of my friends '93 Efini motor getting a rebuild. I was helping Craig with it tonight.

Thanks, it's getting there. First rallycross of the season is April 9th so I'm going to try to have lil Cheeto at least race-ready by then. Right now I'm trying to wire everything back up and get the dash back in. I had to modify it quite a bit to get it to fit with the cage.
I also got some new wheels and tires for the 8:
Enkei PF01 in 17x9 wrapped in 255/40 Bridgestone RE760's. They fit great with the stock suspension, although the added grip is causing me to realize how stock my suspension is. So I may have to do something with that.
Thumpgun, is your friend doing anything special with that S6 build? Porting?

I think I have a spare set of 4 of those center caps if interested. I will check the size.
Yes, I'd be interested in the center caps if they're the same. I finally bought tires and had them mounted today. I put them on the car this evening. I love them! It rides great and looks great. Coilovers are the next project. And some door weather stripping and window scrapers.
I really need to get on the FC but I keep dragging my feet. Craig keeps telling me to get it to the shop and we'll pull the motor and get started. I really want to get it back on the road.
I can refer you to someone if you can't find any help. This thread is only mildly active. But someone local may get with you.
If you decide to go to a shop call Craig at Phantom Automotive in Chattanooga.
