Hmmm...Charleston? Wish I was moving back there I've lived just about everywhere worth living (and not worth living now that I think of it) in Charleston and a lot of it depends on what area you want to live in. You mentioned your husband was getting deployed. If he's in the Air Force then you guys may want to stay in the North Charleston (be careful, there are some well disguised "bad" neighborhoods) or Summerville. I would pick Summerville, simply because that area is more like a suburb of Charleston, so less riff raff and you're about 20 to 30 minutes from the base and shoppping depending on traffic. And it's pretty cheap to live there, too. I'd stay away from downtown Charleston unless you like to spend a lot of money for a crappy roomshare/apartment, hear constant drunkeness from local college kids, and smell horse poo 24/7. Lots of good shopping and bars though. James Island-fun and laid back, expensive but close to the beach. Mt. Pleasant-very expensive and overrated in my opinion. Goose Creek- similar to Summerville except closer to the Naval Weapons Station. It's kind of out of the way and in the middle of nowhere IMO. The last place I lived while I was in SC was in the North Charleston area. There were a few break ins done to vehicles in the apartments I lived in but they never messed with any of the 7's that were ever in the parking lot (and there were quite a few). Good luck finding a place, I hope this helps. The Charleston guys are an awesome bunch and tons of fun-at least they were when I was there.

My impressions after living here about a year and a half...
I would stay away from the dorchester rd. side of n charleston. I had an apartment across from the AFB on dorchester rd, for about a year: Traffic is pretty bad (may improve when they finish Ashley Phos. Rd.), and two of my neighbors' cars got broken into. Summerville and goose creek are better areas, imho, and both are cheaper than living closer to charleston. If money isnt a problem, then james island, daniel island, and mt. pleasant are really nice, but can be expensive.

I don't care much for Mt pleasant personally...a little busy for my taste. I AM thinking James island sounds good. I LOVED going to Folly beach when I was stationed there and James Island is just a connector away from downtown charleston. Thanks for the housing inputs...anyone know how much a house with a 2 car garage would run in the James Island area so I know what I'm looking at?

I lived at the Merritt at James Island (apartments) for a year and a half and I had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with a garage for about $1200. My apartment was brand new and about the size of a small house. It was also about 10 minutes from Folly. I'm sure you can find a house there for about $800 and up depending on how close you want be to the beach. Maybe you could check out West Ashley. It's a broad area that's right outside James Island and about 15 minutes from downtown.


Steiner, sorry to hear that everything is crappy. If it makes you feel better, it's not much better here . Zach says if he doesn't get restationed after 3 years, he's not reenlisting. I may get to go home sooner than I thought

I dont know what you want to spend on a apt,but i used to live in hanahan at park pl apts.It had a nice pool,clubhouse,gym, and was the best apt complex for the $$ in n chas.Its located off n murray ,off remount ave.

I'm actually hoping to find a house with a 2 car garage. Prefer to stay away from apts as much as possible. Trying to start my adult life out there with a good job and a place to mod our own cars in our off time with my girl, Stina. Other members of our forums would be welcome to stop by for a place to work if they don't have one...as long as we have enough notice and time to do it, of course.

The guy i bought my last fd from rented a storage unit to work on his cars,while he was renting a apt.If you cant find a house to rent, this is another option.

I always thought about doing that. It's hard to find storage units that allow you to work on vehicles, because it's a liability, since other people's property could be damaged in case of a fire or an explosion.

or you could just do iti in the parking lot of the complex and just push the car to a new spot so that they dont say anything to you.

I just got myself one of these one car garages at my apartment complex, and I will offer it and help to any rotarites requiring assistance. I have a cherry picker, engine stand, and enough tools to rebuild 3 cars at the same time.
Looking foreward to introducing my spit to the SC group. I know the atlanta folks always enjoyed it thoroughly. It wouldn't be a challenge to your 300 hp SRT4, but it will knock the hell out of most 1st gens and many 2nd gens. And it shoots flames with the best of them, which is very fitting. Just got my RB alum flywheel in, and she just scoots even better in the lower gears.

That's HOT! I wanna see it! And I'm not pushing 300 just yet. Only between 251whp(last dyno) and 275ish whp(that's the max I think is possible right now). After exhaust, computer and intake I should be at 300. Sounds like a hot little ride though. How much does the spitfire weigh?

I'm sorry that your first gen is so slow.
The spitfire weighs about 1800 full of fluids. (Maybe I should weigh it one day, cause the number is always changing)
