Black FD in Winston-Salem

I passed a black FD with what looked to be a C-West front bumper and mirror tint on the rear hatch on Silas Creek Pkwy today. Anyone on here? If so, nice car.

2ndGen.rocket 01-07-05 03:53 PM

I guess I should have yelled "The RX-7 Club knows about you!" then.

silver93 01-07-05 05:03 PM

sounds like nathan's car. he's on the forum, but i can't think of his screen name.

jacastle 01-07-05 05:52 PM

how many are there in winston?

Another winston FD owner here. My '94 is currently at rotorsports in Kannapolis getting some much needed TLC and under-the-hood enhancements. I know of 2-3 red FD's, and another montego blue like mine. How many do we think exist? Maybe we could start our own support club :-)

jason

silver93 01-07-05 11:04 PM

yeah, ashraf runs the NC club. his screen name is bond007. the web site is http://msccnc.org/

There used to be another silver one in w-s. not sure if it's still around. also, there is a black one undergoing the V-8 conversion.

TailHappy 01-10-05 08:26 AM

Well I'm a little late joining the party, but yep, that was me. You're not by any chance the one I egged on one day to do a burnout on Reynolds Blvd, are you? Anyway, thanks for the complements...you must not have been too close to the car ;)

Hey Hooman...things still going well on your car? I keep glancing over at your house on the way home hoping to get a peek at it...

jacastle...you don't happen to be over off of Darwick, do you? I've seen a montego parked at a house on that street.

Guess all I have to add is that there's one more VR FD in the area. Single turbo, J-spec rear wing, and GTC front clip. VERY clean car...

What car is yours? My car is there too getting worked on.

Silver RX-7

You may have seen my silver RX-7 around town. I currently live in Georgia, but I am moving back to NC soon. I have been storing my '94 silver RX-7 at my parents house in Winston-Salem. My dad takes it out about once a week for a trip around town. You guys may have seen him...or not. Anyway, it sounds like there a a few RX-7's in the WInston area and we could all get together sometime.

TailHappy 01-12-05 08:06 AM

Yeaaaaah, you might be the one that I saw at Taco Bell. I thought it was silver93, but I watched and he didn't get into the car. (I was across the street at BK). Didn't realize there were so many FD's in Winston. Funny we don't run into each other more often.

FemaleTuner 01-13-05 09:52 PM

Another FD in Winston Salem

Hey guys! I never see any other FD's when I'm driving around town. Yeah, "Delta's" car will be sick once the transformation is complete (wink wink).
Anyway, the weather has been so nice I've finally made time just to ride around and it would be nice to see some others out and about. I've got a 93 MB touring with factory wheel painted flat black. I saw the silver one today with the mirror tint on Silas Creek earlier this evening. Sounded pretty good, wish I had been in mine. If you guys ever plan to meet up, let me know........Thanks.

TailHappy 01-14-05 08:51 AM

Silver one, or black one on Silas? I'm up and down that street every morning and afternoon. So I apologize in advance if I piss any of you off.. DAMN I get annoyed with slow people in the fast lane on that road! :)

FemaleTuner, did you have your car on a trailer recently? I had seen a MB one with painted wheels in the lot with La Carreta/Papa's/Play It Again a couple times, and then saw it on a flatbed being towed somewhere and haven't seen it since... Thought it was one of my old friends' that used to have a MB with painted wheels, but he sold it to someone who wanted to make it a track car.

Any of you guys ever go up to VIR for the open track days?
We should all get together sometime and go for a drive. There's some decent roads around here.

FemaleTuner 01-14-05 12:51 PM

I bought the car back in May from a guy in DC who had the car built by Peter Farell. I drive around mostly on the weekends with the occassional evening cruise. I'm actually trying to sell mine, it's on AutoTrader, I'm planning on law school and need something less time consuming. If you guys can help, I would greatly appreciate it...........

FemaleTuner 01-14-05 12:53 PM

Yeah that's me I work at the tanning place part time.

TailHappy 01-14-05 01:12 PM

Oh yeah! I know the place you're talking about. I'm over at La Carretta and Sharp Chiropractic, right beside there, quite often. Hmmm, that may actually be the car I was thinking of, then. The wheels looked identical. This guy sold his to someone either up in the DC area or in VA, can't remember which...

Sorry to hear you're selling the car though. :( But I totally understand...it definitely requires a lot of TLC....

You happen to be at BK today? I saw a black FD in the parking lot on my way home from work.

And where is the silver one located at? I swear I saw a silver FD in a driveway on Polo Rd the other day.

I live in Crowne Oaks, on Bethabara. My Rex isn't down here yet as it's back in NY. I'm driving a silver Mazda 6 right now.

.

Word. That one corner on Silas right before Country Club road is the absolute worst. Everyone slows down to about 20mph right there for some damn reason, and it pisses me off every damn day. I have to take Silas every day to merge on to 40, and it seems like I cannot make it to the on ramp in under 20 minutes no matter what time it is.

TailHappy 01-15-05 04:17 PM

Yep, I was there! Too bad you didnt' see me pulling in...did a nice powerslide U-turn... :D

Yeaah, I used to go to Bethabora Moravian church a while back. How do you like the 6? Looks like a nice car to me but I haven't ridden in one yet. Hey, you guys flash your lights at me or something so I'll see you... :)

Yep, I know the corner you're talking about. Everyone's afraid they're gonna flip their car or something...

silver93 01-18-05 04:11 PM

Nathan, wassup! - been a while. did you get the aqua mist installed?
so wait, you saw a stranger getting in a sliver FD at taco bell, it wasn't me, and you didn't stop 'em!? i thought you had my back! ha! just kidding - yeah, i usually park the car in the garage at night, but i'm still there - stop by anytime you see the door open or lights on. oh, if you have done the aquamist, where did you put the water tank/bottle?

2nd gen rocket - yeah, that's me with the silver FD on polo. stop by and say hi if i'm home.

silver93 01-18-05 04:12 PM

oh yeah, what happened with phil's car. is it back up and running?

Excellent, definitely will. Shit, I wish I had known you guys were all so close. All of my buddies live in a house on Minorcas, I'm over there all the damn time.

You'll all definitely get a high beam flash next time. I can't wait to get my Rex down here so I can actually have a pack to roll with now.

silver93 01-18-05 09:57 PM

cool, sounds good. i'll keep an eye out -

yo me and my buddy "garrett" on the forum both have fd's and are from greensboro. Garrett is in need of an engine swap at the time but, since we are so close we should definately meet up some time. here is a pic of my car!!!! I just finally got a digital camera.

TailHappy 01-19-05 07:49 AM

That's cool there's so many of us around here. I can't believe I haven't stumbled on you guys driving around, at least at SOME point...

Yeah, yeah, silver93, I NORMALLY would have had your back, but I was feasting on a tasty Whopper and I couldn't just let that go to waste...... :) Still haven't installed the aquamist yet. I figured since I have to go and tap into the injectors for it, I might as well go ahead and put some 1600's in. Just don't have the money for the whole thing yet since I had to write some tax checks and it's also time for tires again..... But I finally put the KAAZ LSD in and the M2 trailing/toe links. Man that KAAZ is harsh! I'm used to ragged edges but that thing pushes the limits of streetability!

Phil finally got everything back together. He fixed his turbos and the body first, putting on some Garrett turbo I think, and a GTC front end. The first single turbo he got ended up being a debacle with nothing fitting right, but ultimately he got that second one on there. We went to the dyno and he made like 450rwhp, but then the next week blew the engine. So after about a year of being down and only one or two weeks of running, he had to tear it all back down again. But last I heard, he had rebuilt the engine again (was a failed apex seal), and he was fighting to try to get the LM1 wideband working. I think the RPM box wasn't working out for him.

Well it sounds like we have a good support group around here!

silver93 01-19-05 09:52 AM

the KAAZ is harsh, huh? how do you like the M2 toe links? was thinking about doing that later in the year.

Are you saying you're gonna tap the WI into the injectors? How does that work? (I just tapped an injector into the elbow of the TB intake).

Hope Phil's car gets back up and running. Are you doing any auto-x this year?

TailHappy 01-19-05 12:12 PM

Yeah, the KAAZ feels about like my broken torsen, as far as shaking the car and loud popping... But I can put up with that as long as it's not hurting anything...

The aquamist has to tap into the wires going to an injector so that it can determine injector duty to give you a true 3D map. Then I'll have to do a water injector into the elbow, too. Think it's probably going to be a pain to install....

Hoping to do at least a few autocrosses this year after taking all of last year off. Thinking I might go out with the intention of playing, more than getting good times this year. I think playing is more enjoyable. :)

Caravan to Deals Gap in April

Anyone from the Triad area planning on doing the Tail of the Dragon the second weekend in April? There are about a half dozen guys, at this point, from the Raleigh Rotary Drive-in planning on making the trip out there. We could hook up with y'all off I40 and drive up together.

Sounds like y'all have enough rotary owners to form the start of a good rotary club. Someone should annouce a meet somewhere between WS and G'boro and see how many owners turnout.

Bert

TailHappy 01-21-05 01:07 PM

I had kicked around the idea but couldn't decide. I've never driven that stretch of road, but heard good things about it. I guess one of the things keeping me from wanting to go stems from my old motorcyle days....get a bunch of people together and somebody tries to show off and gets hurt........ I just don't want them taking out my car when they do it!

rotorsownyou7,

here's a pic of my car. Can't say enough good things about rotorsports, my rx7 has never run better. Wish I was building a 20B like brian...maybe someday. Which car was yours?

2ndGen.rocket 01-27-05 07:37 PM

Tail Happy, passed ya again today on Silas Creek and gave you a high beam flash

Haha, mine is the crazy pink one! I bought the car blown with the crazy paint job, but have actually gotten fond of it, it isn't too bad.

TailHappy 01-28-05 08:32 AM

Heh, nice avatar, that just made my Friday, lol

Moonchopper 02-14-05 10:03 PM

Damn, didn't know there were THAT many rx-7's around Winston-Salem. I've seen a red one, maybe a black one every now and then, but I usually don't realize it's an FD until after I pass it. Dunno if any of you guys have seen me before, but I drive a white 1st gen that sort of looks like a beater, with a dent in the front left fender. I'm eventually going to get it fixed, but other things have been more important (such as a bent strut and a broken watts linkage due to the previous owner hitting a curb. I now have a LSD rear-end from my '83 GSL parts car, and plan on tackling the strut, then the dent.)

P.S. Yea, I know, the thread is a little old, but I'm kind of excited to see that so many people in the W-S/G-boro area post on here. You'll usually see me on 421, Business 40, Silas Creek Pkway, Lewisville-Clemmons Road, or at Advance Auto in clemmons, trying to get parts to fix my car :D I also work at Sagebrush off of Stratford road, and park by the road, so you might have seen my 7 in the parking lot from time to time.

TailHappy 02-15-05 02:03 PM

Yep, I see quite a few around here, but didn't realize there were THIS many, and I didn't even BEGIN to think so many people would be on this forum!

BTW, Phil's selling his car. HELLUVA deal. I'd buy it myself if I hadn't already put so much into mine....
http://tinyurl.com/42ahs

silver93 02-15-05 04:31 PM

can't believe he's selling! sooo much work into that car. someone is gonna get a NICE car. i heard he was considering doing the V8 thing - but i guess not. wow, i hate that he's selling it.

TailHappy 02-16-05 07:38 AM

Yeah, I can't believe he's finally doing it either. I know he just spent virtually a year without the car, and now the engine's blown again, but damn, the ONLY thing wrong with it is the engine! I really feel like I'm letting one slip away. For that amount of money I about guarantee some punk's gonna buy it and trash it........ :(

I'm just afraid he's gonna regret it too. There's nothing else out there for the money with the performance of that car. I think he's considering a M3 now.

silver93 02-16-05 10:50 AM

well, I can definetly understand the frustration. I would probably do the same thing in his shoes. After a while, you just get tired of the BS with the engine. Of course, you can't go wrong with an M3!

Like you say, hope some asshole doesn't get it...

GTUser 02-16-05 12:00 PM

Y'all have definitely got enough rotaries in the TRIAD area to have a nice size group. You should try to begin meeting in the spring.

Speaking of spring, any rotary owners from teh triad going up to Deals Gap in April? The Raleigh group will be caravaning up and should pass thrur there on Friday, 4/8. We could all meet for lunch, or maybe a late breakfast, somewhere and then headout on I-40. We're trying to workout hooking up with the guys from eastern NC as they come thru Raleigh headed to western NC. It would make a nice drive to get all the rotaries together.

Bert

Rx7thHeaven 02-16-05 02:59 PM

Well hopefully my car will be running before his is sold and he can take a ride and we can talk him into keeping it and throwing an LS1 in it!!! You are right, it would be as shame to see that car go. Hey Hooman... I am really glad you decided to leave your dremel here... I cant begin to tell you how many times that thing has come in handy!

Jonathan

silver93 02-16-05 03:45 PM

hey, sure noooooooooooooooooooo problem, as long as you don't forget our agreement that every day you have the dremel is worth 30 minutes of drive time i get in the beast when she's ready!

TailHappy 02-21-05 12:38 PM

Heeey, Jonathan...you must be the one he was talking about! He was saying he wanted to see how your swap went. I guess that was a route he was considering at one point. Holy crap I can't imagine trying to do that though! I put a different engine in another car of mine one time and never did get all the details worked out. Definitely a lot to be consdered with doing a swap like that! But best of luck to you! Let us know when it'd done so we can all ogle over it! :)

bond007 02-24-05 01:52 PM

Heh, I move to the Triangle and all of you guys come out of the woodwork. It is good to hear that RX-7's are traversing my old stomping ground (there are some fun country roads out in Forsyth and adjoining counties). :D

I'm in Greensboro every now and then and our Mazda Club used to meet in Greensboro every other month (alternating with Raleigh/Durham). If there is interest in a gathering in the area on a weekend, I can probably make some calls and get some of the MSCCNC guys to drop in on short notice. Drop me a line if so (vp@msccnc.org) I don't have much time to surf the forums with the multiple car projects I have going on at home...

If any of you guys are interested in crashing our Durham/RTP meeting, we would love to have you out. Only 1 hr from Greensboro...would a round of soft drinks on us sway you to drive out? ;)

BTW, I used to drive from Clemmons to inner city Raleigh once a month for the MSCCNC meetings because there was no RX-7 group in the area back in 2000...that's committed. :)

Rx7thHeaven 02-24-05 11:31 PM

Yep, I am the one with the soon to be V8 rx. The swap really wasnt that bad.. There is a lot of good information out there to be had, that guides you through it. I should be starting the engine up tomorrow. My friend Steve, (the original owner of your car, Nathan) is coming over and we should be firing it up. I have to get on the ball because I have already sent in my $$$ for a VIR drivers school on March 5th and 6th.

Jonathan

TailHappy 02-25-05 10:19 AM

Best of luck with that Jonathan. Funny how you almost feel like you know somebody even though you've never met them. I've heard Steve talk about you as well as Phil and Matt. I think I saw you driving at an autox one time at Dixie Classic but didn't get a chance to get down to meet you.

So how much power do you expect to have now? You were the one that was picking on sport bikes before, right? :)

Anyway, good luck and tell Steve I said hey. I see him on the street around here fairly regularly. And I'm jealous you'll be at VIR. I wanted to go so bad, but there's things I need to do to the car first so that I can fully enjoy a problem-free track weekend.....

tpdrx7 02-25-05 09:37 PM

I'm just afraid he's gonna regret it too. There's nothing else out there for the money with the performance of that car. I think he's considering a M3 now.[/QUOTE]

Been watchin this one for awhile and couldn't help but point out that Matt got an M3 last year. Now Phil. Can Richie be far behind - or has he already done it?

Tomas

Rx7thHeaven 02-26-05 02:34 AM

Well for right now the car will have stock cam, heads, manifolds. I will just have eliminated cats and catback so I am hoping for around 350rwhp and that will be about 350-370rwtq. I will do long tubes and a cam in the near future and will be hoping to touch the 400 mark NA. I will also be putting a 150shot on it soon!!! I will def bring it out to one of the meets when it is done, prob a few auto x's also

Jonathan

TailHappy 02-26-05 12:42 PM

Good point, Tomas... :) I don't know what Richie's driving now. Last I heard he had sold the 350 and bought a 280 or something...

Sounds pretty sweet Jonathan! That oughta feel pretty good in a light car! Do it reliably and I doubt you'll be looking back too longingly at the Wankel... I'll definitely have to check that out when you get it all buttoned up! :D

TailHappy 03-02-05 09:43 AM

Figured I'd pass along the news that Phil's car's on the way to Miami....... :(

2ndGen.rocket 05-03-05 09:52 PM

Finally managed to catch silver93 at his house while I was riding around tonight. Hopefully I get to meet a few more of you guys in the area

bstd2gen7 12-01-06 02:59 PM

Sup, yall

I got a 87 tII and my buddys got a n/a. I was wondering if there is a way to have a meet somewhere here locally to meet some more fellow rotor heads rather than driving all the way out to raleigh. I recently moved to kvegas so winston and gsboro are equal distance away from me.

BoostedFd3s 12-01-06 03:13 PM

I am not from Winston but for those of you who has their car at Rotorsport...my car is there too getting the 500r turbo kit put in...mines the VR with the cracked sexy style front...lol...
