anyone get a Reconstructed Title in Alabama
I am very new here and could sure use some advice from someone who's been there.
I just became the proud owner of a 94 FD that *ahem* needs some work. I live in Gulfshores, Alabama and thought I could tow it to the satalite courthouse and get a salvage title in my name. Their saying (on the phone) it needs to be put together by a licensed reconstructor and then inspected in Montgomery. Then a Reconstructed Title would be issued.
Has anyone here actually gone thru this ? Do people still check VINs here ? Can I get anything other than my bill of sale from the seller to say this car is mine ?

Well, Far as I know buying Salvaged and getting a rebuilt title in Alabama might be an expensive process if you don't know the right people.
Hence why you should always buy "rebuilt" vs "salvaged"... as there is a huge difference.
Check around with your local body shops and see if any of them have this license.
Good luck! And congrats on your 94 FD!

i have a in with a junkyard here in montgomery that gets new titles all the time for cars that come in.
dont know how much though i think 35 dollars??
and if you bought the car without a title i wouldnt touch it( do anything to it) till you get one. did the car get wrecked? what is the whole story?
and yes they do use the vin numbers in alabama.

I carfaxed it. It burnt down Dec27, 03 (merry Christmas eh) It went to a frame shop, they reported damage but I only see burned paint and harness damage, no wreck. Other things melted around the turbo/precat area. Last owner on carfax record was Nationwide, they were issued a Pa. salvage title. They sold it to a yard in Philly who started parting out. Then, somehow, it went back to a yard in Va. called Autodemics. Then to a guy in Macon 3 years ago who kept it in his basement for three years while he gathered parts. The yard only gave him a photocopy of the title, I guess thats all they needed to sell parts off of it.
I bought it from him for $3500.00 It's my dream come true. Only thing i've done so far is clean the Tan interior. It needs the new harness installed, Diff and axles installed, manual pedal set, PS booster and cylinder, dash vinyl installed. I have all these parts. I need to buy bumper support, rad and assorted under hood stuff. Need engine, 5speed and PPS but have new drive shaft. It would be a shame to part it out.
bryant, if you could use your "in" to help me out I would show my gratitude to you in deed and substance. I have a FD steering wheel w/ new bag or a R1 wing.
If it's a new Alabama Salvage title in that yards name that they can sign over to me that would be enough to get me through the process. They issue titles for abandoned cars or mechanics lien cars so why not to reconstructors.
Whatever, I'll PM you my cell# Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post.
