You would'nt want to come to the uk, fuel prices are beyond a joke. £1.25 per litre here equates to $1.97 per litre, I'm not sure i worked it out right but $7.44 a gallon sounds about right!

If those were our gas prices, there actually would be REAL progress here in the "Green" movement to stop using fossil fuels - instead of the "Dangling Carrot" crap they have now.

I personally believe the Hydrogen/Electric Hybrid is the real way of the future. - No Batteries. Fuel Stations Everywhere - keep our infrastructure, and No Pollution.

alot of people try and blame gas prices going higher in the winter because it's a 'special' blend for the winter, mostly for the cars up north but idk if i believe that lol

With a price difference of .67 cents... you would save about $10 to fill your tank...

true, but id then need to get bigger injectors, fuel rail and lines, and get the bosch 044 pump i want it will be all done eventually, and if gas prices stay up that just means the car sits longer, meaning i save a bit more and can buy the items i need!!

That "special" blend is now called E10 - and its now the year round gas. We used to call it "winter gas" when I was a kid. Just contained ethanol. I don't know if it was actually 10% back then, but it was an ethanol blend.

I believe OPEC controls the price of oil. As the demand for heating oil goes up in the winter, so do oil (gas) prices. They fall in the spring and spike again around the hoildays (memorial / labor day, etc) to hit the travelers. They have the fluctuation down to a science.

Basic economics - supply and demand. Even during good times they can cut back production to lower supply and raise prices. It would be nice if the Govt' would regulate it better - especially in hard winters!

But like Directfreak said - Hydrogen is the wave of the future. The electric/gas hybrids will probably just be a phase until someone can perfect the hydrogen motors.

To explain why your Gas prices are going up would take a huge discourse on economics and various geo-political insights.

In short:
1) Gas goes up in the Winter due to demand on Oil based resources Globally.
2) Gas is rightfully/wrongfully being marketed as a depleting resource. Combine that with demand from China currently or soon to be surpassing US demand with India not far behind = Higher Demand with Less Available Gas = Higher Prices.

My personal opinion? Even if your Uncle only "heard it on the news" in my personal opinion I do not think it is outside the realm of possibility for gas to hit $4 a gallon again in Florida within 18 months (at least for premium). Where in the past OPEC may have been worried about crashing the US (again) with the increased demand from China and India they really care less and less about the US.

At the risk of sounding incredibly rude if gas prices are going to effect your ownership of an FD I'd suggest a daily driver that gets better gas mileage or selling the car. These just are not cheap cars to own. =)
