Yeah, if just 3/4 throttle I would hold off until you get the boost controller. You may not have spikes but it may creep up top. That was the same issue I had when I first went full exhaust. But the profec B did solve it for me. I mean a nice cool night I might see some creep but it never hurt the motor.

Brad, get the boost control hooked up? I will sell the plug wires for half of what I paid for them. Will have to find how much I paid. I also will most likely sell the RB single polished catback I have. If anyone else is interested.

Brad, If Brian can net you say 20 or more HP out of your car wouldnt that be worth the $350? I mean most pay more for items that net less power?? Just a thought.

Also looks like Brian will be coming later than I thought. Maybe end of June. I will post up once tickets are purchased.

hus 05-22-07 03:13 PM

Mike,

I would love for Brian to tune the car but I've got (or want) to get my Boost Controller, fuel pump and wideband all installed before then and the problem is I don't have any experience in installing any of those on a FD so I don't know what I'm getting into. I got the profec-b spec 2 yesterday and I only glanced over it and I don't know if I'm gonna have problems installing that or not. I still haven't got the fuel pump and wideband in yet. I guess all I really need for a tune is the boost controller to be installed, correct?

I did have readings of 0.85 bars boost and 85.5% injector duty last night on a 3rd gear real quick WOT. Injector duty kinda scared me.

SPICcnmGT 05-22-07 04:10 PM

I ran for close to a year with my inj. duty hitting 95%+ with no problems. As Stephen said the side feed injectors do not get as hot as the top feed because they are setting in the fuel which cools them some.

I have also never really seen proof where 85% is the safe limit, all I have seen is where people say 85% is safe. I have also not really heard of many injector failures due to high duty cycles either, especially the stock injectors. So I wouldn't worry to much about it, it is only above 85% for maybe a sec. anyway.

hus 05-22-07 04:30 PM

I may just go ahead and upgrade them just for the heck of it. But "Mahjik" posted this quote for me from "Wade"

"Safely" is a relative term, safety doesn't have as much to do with the duty cycle of your injectors as it does everything else like charge temp, a:f ratio, timing. PFS is right on this one, think of PFS whatever you want (good or bad, I couldn't care less) but an FD can certainly make 400 rwhp with the stock injectors, it has been done.

I'm not sure why so many people freak out about hitting high duty cycles with stock injectors. Here are some things to consider:

1) I don't know anyone who has had an injector failure from driving the stock ones at high duty cycles, and a lot of people have done this for YEARS

2) I DO know several people who had enlarged injectors fail

3) There is no reason why an injector should fail just because it is staying open instead of clicking on and off several times per second... someone explain to me their reasoning on this!

4) It is the fuel injection companies that are telling you that beyond 85% duty is a bad thing, big surprise

5) I think beyond 85% *IS* a bad thing in a sense because it leaves no more room for mods if your a:f is exactly where you want it, you could lose tuning flexibility... but I wouldn't freak out about thinking my engine would blow because my duty cycles are high

6) High duty cycles only occur right near redline anyway, we're talking about a second or two when raking through the gears unless you are going for a top speed run at Bonneville

My conclusion is there is no need to upgrade injectors until there is a NEED to upgrade injectors. I run 15psi of boost with stock injectors and pressure and have been hitting 100% duty for almost 4 years now. If one of my injectors fails I'll know it and I highly doubt I'll blow my engine because of it.

Wade

I thought that was a pretty good article. And maybe you don't "have" to upgrade but it's not gonna hurt...or at least I don't think it will.

Brad

HDP 05-22-07 05:31 PM

I'll be running 850 primaries and 1200 secondaries plus all the mods and upgrades I've bought and stashed away. Walbro 255, Areomotive FPR, HKS twinpower, XSPower medium intercooler, upgraded solenoids, GReddy elbow, 99 spec twins, PLX SM-AFR wideband, GReddy Profec type-S, aluminum radiator, Defi fuel pressure gauge, PFC Datalogit... (I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff) plus everything I already had installed. I hope I can have everything assembled, broke-in and tuned before 7/7/07 :scared: .

I agree to the above. I would think almost everyone has run 85% or higher with stockers once they up the boost so no worries. If my post about running 91% duty got you worked up, sorry. I was mainly concerned as I plan on running much more boost than 21psi and seeing 91% duty at that point means I am either running out of pressure, injector or running too rich. If you need help on the install bring it over one day and we will knock it out!!

I might take you up on that. I got my Fuel pump in the mail today so even though I don't really need it on, I'm still gonna install it. I don't think the fuel pump is that big a deal to me but I sure don't want to get anything incorrect on the boost controller.

SPICcnmGT 05-23-07 08:27 AM

^if you plan on upgrading injectors I would suggest 1200 secondaries for now as 4x850 idle super rich. I actually just ended up bumping my idle up to around 1000-1100 just so it would idle smooth. So now I have a high super rich idle, but I've got use to it.

hus 05-23-07 10:20 AM

Thanks for the tip Chris.

sk8world 05-24-07 12:22 AM

I need a few basic stock parts. First and I need a front oil return extension. "PHIL".. You may have one of these you can part with? I also need the stock exhaust bracket that bolts to the rear can and holds it up right behind the bumper. anyone whom is running a aftermarket exhaust (except racing beat) will have this. Let me know....

I found my boost issue. Basically me rushing and not running the vac lines a safer way. My vac lines to and from wastegate were touching the manifold just a tad. They both had splits and holes.

Dustinali 05-24-07 12:37 AM

Mike call me at 655-3325 I have that extension and can get your hanger, and hus call me also. I have a shop in town (huntsville) and can help you out a bit. Guys give me a call and mike let me know when everyone is meeting at big eds. I am rushing to get my 7 done but if not done in time I will bring my rb25 240sx to the pizza place if no one will think that is bad.

Dustin

Mike,

I believe that FD belongs to a guy I met at Seven-Not-Stock last year. He has a LS1 FC but his wife drives a 93 VR FD and they live in H'ville. I even asked him at the event if he knew you and he said no but that he would would try to get in touch with you so they could meet up and eat with us some time. I think his screen name on www.v8rx7forum.com is "LS1 powered". I bet that's who I saw on I-565 on the way to the Gap.

I bet you are right, I met that guy last year at a track day down here, and his wife had just got the car and it was stock as can be.
