I don't even live in Florida, but Google really is your friend.

Here in Texas, as long as you pass emissions (meaning your NOx and CO2 levels are fine) you're good to go.

It looks like Florida has similar laws, but (since I don't live there) this is the best I feel like searching for: http://www.dep.state.fl.us/air/rules/fac/62-242.pdf

Page -307, section (d) (bottom of the page) ... EDIT: Is a good start. Read the whole document and then check out: http://www.myflorida.com/

Cheers,

I think this belongs in the lounge, but... I think speedforjesus is dead on. I couldn't imagine a state outlawing aftermarket exhaust entirely.

It's lack of cat makes it illegal. While Florida doesn't have emissions tests, you could still land in trouble if they ever check. Exhaust is probably too loud anyway. throw a cat or a pre-silencer in place of that straight pipe.

This belongs in the SE section but anyways...

I got a ticket in my FD for it being modified from stock form. (I had a apexi n1)
He said i had 30 days to put it back to stock. So I asked the cop if i went down a muffler shop and got a factory replacement if that would be satisfactory and he said no. He said that unless it comes from the factory they can give you a ticket for this.

Ask FCCakeZilla...he has gotten two tickets for this already.

Sucks but i didn't have the time or energy to fight the $50 ticket.

So, what happens when your exhaust gets all rusty and has holes in it? You have to go to the dealership and get an EXACT replacement?

I'll be checking FL off of the list of places I can move to.

I don't even have to pass emissions where I live. Hehe.

Did you look up the law when he gave you that ticket? It sounds like bullshit to me.

Did you ask him how many Camaros Mustangs and Corvettes he pulled over with aftermarket exhausts?

i actually just went to court for this yesterday...i recieved a ticket for improper exhaust and "muffler" too loud. According to fl state law, a proper exhaust consists of 3 things.....header/manifold, cat, and a muffler. also it cannot be louder than 95 db from either 50 or 100 feet. There are no state inspections yet they still enforce the law when they cannot get you on anything else. its like a ticket for having your radio too loud or tint to dark....just a way to **** with you and take your money.

Even though Fl doen't have emissions restriction inspections the police will try to tell you that anything other than straight from factory exhaust is illegal and act like their correct no matter how quiet or loud you car may be. I've been pulled over at least 5 times with my previous fcs on mod exhausts, but thats not going to stop me from doing a full custom pipes with twin N1 mufflers to my vert , soon. Another thing police won't tell you when they stop you is the limit decibel level legal in Fl because that gives you a chance that your car might be within limits.

yea, but if you request to be db tested, they stick the thing in the muffler and make you rev the car up. its not just measuring the db's at idle.

How many officers do you think carry DB meters in there cars??
NONE to very little.
When they try to issue a ticket to you ASK them what the reading was on the DB meter, this way they know you are aware of the laws......
They tried it with me on my old GP that had dark tints and I asked what was the percent according to the light meter and he turned around and just issued me a warning. You need to let them know you are aware of laws and procedures.

No one seems to care where I live. My header is ridiculously cracked. Yet the guy at the Oil Change / Inspection place passed it. It's obnoxiously loud as well and the last time I got pulled over it was because I didn't have a front license plate. The cop didn't say a word about my exhaust.

I'm getting a Racing Beat header and the Bonez Hi-Flow Cat next month though, so it's all good!

Cheers,

i have never been pulled over by a cop for exhaust and i have straight through with RB dual. my friend has a camaro z28 with longtubes, x pipe, and dumped before the diff with no mufflers at all.. we pulled up to a light with a cop sitting there and he heeltoe and rev matched his downshifts in every gear to see what the cop would do and all he did was just sit there and didnt even look.

I think the cop just wanted to mess with you. I know quiet a few cops, and sometimes they just pull people over for the fun of it and try to find something to give tickets for. I have a car that has 2 3/4 all the way back no cat... it does have a resinator, but the damned thing is still very loud and noone messes with me at all... but then again that could just be because I'm a chick ; )
