2gen FC 1988 non turbo running problems

my FC 1988 RX7 non-turbo GXL starts right up & after warm-up will idles fairly well to around 900 rpms . problem is when I rev engine above 1500 the engine starts surging up & down , so I am unable to drive car unless I stay in low gear only. I have checked the BAC valve & it clicks when I hooked 12 volt jumper wire to it , also checked the TPS & the voltage seems to be fine & goes up when I rev the engine up & down , I am at a loss as to what to check next. I need some expertise..

I haven’t worked on an 88 as my FC was an 89. Doesn’t the 88 have the diagnostic port, early version of OBD that came on more in 8 with the check engine light? If so, anyone know if the 88 will flash any codes if he jumpers it?
