I've never worked on an FD before but it looks like he's trying to purge the coolant system or something. I'm probably wrong though, just a guess. I will have to ask around because I'm interested.

Hes testing for blown coolant seals I believe. Some trick using distilled water. If bubble appear a coolant seal has blown, looks bad.

Yeah, it's a way of checking if your seals are bad. If the coolant bubbles, your coolant seals are probably shot and time for a rebuild. Just do a Coolant Seals search and you'll get tons of info.

some people use lisle funnels to check....if you see little bubbles come up (champagne bubbles) well thats bad news.
