Vid: RX7 and new Cobra full session at Road America

This is the video some of you have already seen in a smaller version. A friend and I (Bruce) went out and played around during the 1st Sunday session at Road America in October. I had planned to make a more produced version, but I don't have time, so I figured I'd post this instead.

70 megs, so be prepared for all you on slow connections.

I have it hosted at my 93fd page: http://www.93fd.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=4772

But I would recommend right-clicking and saving this link locally to view.

Kinda surprised at how easily that C6 Z06 got passed. Not saying you guys weren't going fast, but i have a feeling the driver wasn't quite up to par with the car, or was just going slow. Those things are absolute MONSTER'S.

Took a little while to get the pass from the Miata there around 12 min mark. Couldn't fig. out what the hold up was. Nice flame there shortly after too.

Nice and FAST around 14:50 with the long turn in the FD!

Overall nice vid---stopped at 18mins for me (my internet sucks)

Guessing that was a GT500? Mustang you were on the track with. Handled a lot better than i thought it would, those are big cars.

Yah, we know the guy who was driving it, he's generally a good driver, he used to have a very nice M3. This was his first event in the Z06 though, and I believe he was still running the run-flats, which are crappy on track.

The two miatas are actually a husband/wife that I know. Hers is turboed and his is supercharged I think. They are thinking about getting a FD sometime soon. I wasn't trying to push them because I wanted to get some video for them.

Yeah, the carousel is fun in these cars. 20 seconds of at the limit cornering. I try to enter the turn at 75-80 and exit at 100-110.

Did you try to watch it on the page or download it to your machine?

Yeah, it's a GT500, not a cobra, my mistake. His car is very fast, and not stock. He had some tuning done, and was running closer to 460ish rwhp and was running Nitto R-Comps. You're right, it's pretty heavy. I think he said something like 4000 pounds total with him in it.

Bruce's other car is a well prepared 2000 Cobra R. That car is less HP, but substantially faster on the track. I think that one is down to 3200 pounds which helps.

1. I downloaded it, don't know how i was able to watch some of it but not the rest, usually it would just cancel the download.

2. Is this Bruce with the Cobra R that you see in all of Damian's vids?

Very awesome video! Car looks and sounds great! Very nice driving skills also. It's funny how even on the track some people just don't know how to apex/take the turns (the older c4 vette (I think) in the beginning wasn't correctly taking the turns)).

1) Odd, I can download it no problem on a couple different machines. I did just realize it hoses up the name, but that shouldn't matter.

2) It is the same Bruce.

1) Figured it out, stupid browser selection. Can't do it properly with Mozilla, saves it as "All Files". Def. Works with IE

2) Yeah, just figured that out. Reading through some old posts.

Thanks. We had some fun out there.

We were in group 'B', (there was A,B,C,D) so we had some fun beating dudes up out there. It's all in fun though, we know a bunch of the people in all the groups.

The download keeps freezing for me a little less than haldf way through. Happens both when I save target as or try to watch the first link.

Usually when that happens I can cancel the download and start again and it picks up where it froze but in this case it always starts over from scratch.

Yeah, realized that it's doing the same thing for me. Had it working properly (downloading) when using IE, but it stopped and does exactly what you describe.

Huh, so you are using IE? I've tried it a bunch of times on different machines with firefox and it works fine.

Ok, well then everybody use that last link, not the first one. I think I have a PHP problem with the large files.

If a mod could edit my first post and delete the two links and put the text from my other one in that would be nice.

The NSX is crazy!... Does it belong in the "A" group?
Good race anyways~

Also is that another FD going the opposite way at the very end of the video? just before you guys reach the parking lot..?

I wish there was a track in Vancouver BC

The NSX was very serious. It was basically prepped near the level of a Speed World Challenge GT car, and by the end of the weekend was running times similar to what the Touring cars run at RA.

I believe it was over 400 whp, had 14" brakes in front, 13" in back, was about 2" off the ground, full racing slicks, full cage/fire system etc. etc. It was a very very nice car. The guy had his mechanic towing it around the country and then he was flying in on weekends to run. I think he went through a couple sets of tires in one weekend. He was running both A and B group to get more track time.

Damian talked to the guy more, apparently he was pretty nice as well.

He appeared out of nowhere for me, we were passing that group and I was waiting for Bruce to get through and suddenly he was in my rear view. I first saw him as I entered for turn one.

I decided I'd let him pass after 3 and see if I could stay with him for a couple turns. He didn't really pull on me too much, but he didn't have to brake as early as I did (which is different, I try to brake later than everyone) and his cornering speed was significantly higher. Plus after 2 turns I had cooked my brakes. I thought I was going to get the benefit of traffic in 8 and catch up, but he passed the guy in the short straight and was gone, since I had to go slow behind the guy for the entire 20+ second carousel. So I waited for Bruce and let my brakes cool. Turns out that was the last lap of the session anyway.

I think damian could have stayed with the guy if he really tried hard, because he was new to the track, once he had more experience the car was going to be able to pull some serious times well down into the 2:20's.

Yeah, I think it is TurboGarrett in the vid at the end. He was there running too. We swapped some brake rotors when he cracked one of his rears.

Did you see that Damian posted some potential date for this year's MAM events?
