Oh boy....I would NEVER put anything besides a rotary into a 7.

Haha. No lets not. I would rather have an ls7 than any rotary. I mean... 505hp STOCK... and it will last like 200,000 miles.
|
haha, guess im an idiot too then, and i know quite a few others. my plan for my build is 650 rwhp. but im doing everything i can to lower the torque so im not spinng the 285's constantly
|
Ha ha i guess there is like 20,000 more idiots too. lol.
Ya an ls7 is a really nice swap. |
yeah im an idiot lol, but anyways i wouldnt put anything other than a rotary in a 7. i just think you would be taking away from the uniqueness of our cars. but everyones taste is diffrent so i wont hate.
|
Ya that is so true. The rotary belongs with the 7. So dont change it.
|
when I pull up in the gas station the first thing everyone asks or wants to know is about the engine. they all want to see it and hear it. it wouldnt be the same if i had something diffrent under the hood. but thats just me.
|
i mean honestly, who would want a lsx powered car anyways? Probably someone who likes reliability and torque?
' Only thing i dont like about the fortune kit its the rivets they place all over it and the rear end is bulky and bland. |
I like the rivets. They make the car have character.
An Ls7 would be nice but.... everyone would know..."It is just a v-8" A rotary... "What the hell is under the hood!?!" |

I saw one at the 2006 sema auto show. It was by far the best kit ever made for the fd's. If i had 10k sitting around i would get one.

I want to know if someone has done a 700hp 20B build.... IMO this kit NEEDS a 20B under the hood! The no doubt hundreds of pounds of extra body, and wheel/tire mean only one thing.... Beefy engine!
pics anyone??!?!?! The second pic is for WorkmanGT and anyone else who ever wondered...what would a Fortune look like in a dark solid color. As for the V8 vs Rotary debate...I'm not interested in a flame war, or turning this thread into yet another V8 vs rotary debate. I know what I'm doing to my car some, maybe a lot don't approve of...but quite frankly, I don't care because it is MY car, I'll do what I want to MY car, and you do what you want to YOUR car. If you like it cool, if you don't like it that's cool too, because ultimately, I'm building this car for me and no one else. In other words, I like the rotaries, and a lot of you guys have done very nice things with your cars, it's just not for me, and just because this is the path I've chosen to reach my goal, does not mean this is the path to reach the goal for anyone else. I'm not going to try and convince you of why I chose a V8 instead of a rotary, I just expect that you don't try to convince me why I should switch back to a rotary or how I ruined the car. I'm agreeing to disagree :) Oh...and I'm not going with an LS1, I'm going with a LSX. |
^Well said, each to his own.
Looks like your building a real beast |

1st pic...shipping receipt. 60lbs for the entire body kit and boxes. So even if you didn't take anything off the car, you'd only add 60lbs in body kit. But you remove the stock hood, front bumper, front fenders, pop up headlights, and very heavy rear hatch...I didn't bother weighing all that stuff....but in body alone the added weight would be very negligible. The real weight would come from the larger rims and tires, which if I'm not mistaken slowed the rotary powered version down due to the fact that it did not have enough torque to spin so large of a tire. The added weight of the rims and tires would depend on what kind of rims and tires you went with...but I doubt hundreds of pounds over stock tires.

IMO you need 450+hp just to keep the looks in line with the performance (it looks like an exotic - ferrari/lambo etc. for the average guy) out of curiosity, what do you mean you are going LSX? you have to have a block you are using... LS1, ls2, LS7 etc... what are the specs of the motor your planning? BTW when you get that car done it'll prob be one of the most unique cars ever. I mean honestly, how many ppl do a fortune kit FD with an LSX... its just awesome! ;) |
lsx is a bigger bore, steel block i believe, can be mored out easily to a 427 cid.

I mean honestly, how many ppl do a fortune kit FD with an LSX... its just awesome! ;) The block's designation is "X", it's not a #. People are used to referring to the Gen III and Gen IV small blocks as a LSx, as x is just a place holder for the #, as 1,2,3,6,7, and soon to be 9. However, GMPerformance Parts has released a LSX block, the X is the designation, as in eXtreme. The Cliff note's version of the upgrades are, the LSX is an iron block opposed to aluminum, instead of 4bolts per cylinder it has 6bolts per cylinder to prevent the heads from lifting off under extreme power levels, can easily be bored out to 4.250" for NA, and with the tall deck can be bored and stroked up to 511cid, and has true priority main oiling, and provisions for either aftermarket dry sump or LS7 style dry sump. With claims of being able to handle upwards of 2,000 to 2,500 hp. (I won't be shooting for anywhere near that claimed level, so my reliability should be pretty high) In other words, I highly doubt the words "Oh...it's just a V8" will ever be muttered by anyone after seeing it run. Oh and since I'm sure the question of how exactly I plan on putting that much power through a FD IRS would eventually pop up... The answer is, I'm not. The IRS has been scrapped in favor of a Ford 9" with a Locker and 35spline axles connected to the car via a triangulated 4-link. 1st pic: LS1, note 4 bolts per cylinder, sleeves, and the aluminum block 2nd pic: LSX, 6bolts per cylinder, no sleeves, and the darker iron color 3rd pic: Ford 9" 4th pic: Mounting of the Ford 9" as seen from the interior 5th pic: Sheetmetal cover |
^ Beautiful. I want to see videos of this one.
Why not a 572 GM crate motor? i mean just look at it... http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...8827&engCat=bb http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/En...8827&engCat=bb |
wow.....i was just thinking yesterday... "I wish somebody would do a solid black fortune 7".
thanks!!! |
i've seen the kit for 11 grand

thank you for clearing up that LSX/LSx misconception I had! You definitly should get a few more pics and/or vids when you get her done! |
I wanna see an engine that holds up 2500hp not only for some quarter miles... R there any videos?
greetz |
i saw it in person at drift atlanta, didnt even recognize it as a 7 at first. not a fan of kits but this one is about as sweet as it gets!
|
yeah its by far the nicest body kit imo. heep us posted on your build

greetz I did come across this video of one running twin turbos....454cid two 88's at 6#'s of boost and it made 1210 at low boost. The guy said they plan on upping it to 20-25psi for over 2khp. http://www.lsxtv.com/index.php?strea...flv&playlist=1 I have to admit, I was skeptical about posting in here given the whole rotary vs v8 discussion already going on, but you guys have certainly given me a very warm welcome and showed genuine interest and thank you very much for that. I'll keep you guys posted and try to answer any other questions you may have. Up next, there are still a few areas where the body wasn't as smooth as I would like. Really just an issue on a few spots, manual sanding didn't pick them up too well...too small of a sanding block. So I'll be doing a bit of filling, glazing, sanding, and respraying to make sure its as smooth as can be. Then it'll be onto the chore of wetsanding and buffing the car. I didn't mention it before because I wasn't sure how people would react, but this was my first attempt at installing a body kit, and my first attempt at painting a car. But it's been a fun learning experience. |
lol gona need 300 pounds of ballast in the back for traction
