I really don't like the lastest Mazda concepts. I think the next gen should be similar to the FD in basic shape/design similar to how Lexus LFA is reminiscent of the Supra.
This car would make a nice move forward from the FD3S design. What do you think?

I had the same thoughts too... that would be easy tho'. Just round out the front and rear to make it smoother like the FD.
If a flat back end was kept it could play off the styling cues of the Veilside Fortune kit.

Has nothing of the organic Mazda design in it... rather looks like a vette or Lexus instead. In fact looks like it has a Chevy bow tie on the front bumper.
Doesn't tie into any past or present design, and does not even have any Mazda street or show car DNA.
Big vote NO. It looks too much like some art school rejects picture of a car they think looks cool.

^+1 looks way too much like a vette. none of the flow that the FD had. though i highly doubt Mazda will be allowed to make a new 2 seat pure sports car, if they do i think theyre on the right path with the Furai

Great input and honest remarks. I'm not sure if I'm on the mark with echoing the negative comments but I do think this design is a bit edgy for a new RX7. However, I think the roof line, head lights and mirrors are pretty nice as well as the overall shape. I'd round down the belt lines and front/rear to bring it closer to home. I think FD3S2005 captured my thoughts and sentiment the best.
I will say this... I'd rather see a move in this direction over the RX8-esk style of body and those ugly front fenders. The Kabura <sp?> is also off the mark in my opinion. To be blunt, it looks like the bastard offspring from a last gen Eclipse that mated with an RX8.
The car design I posted is a Rueben-Zammit X3 so it's obviously not anything from a Mazda design house or otherwise. Simply, something I found on the net and thought it look badass and could be mutated into an new RX7 under the right knife... pen or mouse...hehe.
Peace

Personally i think that they shouldn't make the rx7 again... because they would just **** it up like the new v6 supra replacement. i think they should just either go on and make a rx9 or fix the rx8... but thats just me

I was looking up images for the RX9 after reading some of the posts and found the image below. I'm not diggin the Mazda 6 looking front but a more aggressive and tapered nose would do the trick.
I don't know who gets credit for the design.

Another FD photoshop/animation. Not a real drawing but yet another fanstration.
