RX7 Vid - How slow?

Hi

I came accross this video of a UK RX7 racing a Vaxhaul Corsa at Santa pod.
It manages a quarter mile time of 15.33 seconds.
We have been descussing this, and although it looks as though the driver had a bad start, the time looks really slow.

What sort of time does a standard car normally do?

Many thanks

That time is very slow, the fastest time I've seen with a stock 94 Rx7 was a 13.4? with just tires. I took my stock 93 to the track and got a 13.92 so. Don't know but to me it sounded as if he wasn't letting the Rpms wind out or something

I thought it seemed very slow.
Id always thought it should hit early 14s without too much of a problem.

Thanks for clearing that up.

1. He can't launch
2. He can't shift
3. He did tons of body mods and (hopefully, by that time) nothing but exhaust
4. He left off early, I'm thinking. If not, thats a mega-slow clock.

I know I havent posted much, but I had to comment on this one. Im a noob at drag racing at the track, but my car when it was stock and had 80k on original engine/turbos pulled a 14.3 @ 98 MPH at LACR.

ooookaaaayyyy

Am I the ONLY one who thinks that FD sounded like it had a piston engine swap. It sounded like a 2.0 turbo to me not a rotary at all. listen when the exhaust sound gets louder. I mean I could be wrong but it sounds that way to me. sounded sorta like an sr20 pos

The end of the track is a split sec before the time pops up on the screen... He lets off the throttle way before the end and rolls through the traps... could of easily ran a 14 sumthin.

yes I don't like sr20's okay, I believe that the smaller ca18det had more potential because of the valvetrain. I also have a friend with an s13 with a ca18det in it and will soon have an s15 turbo. He is shooting for 300whp by mid summer, he has a stand-alone also we will be working with. for the record I have ridden(sp?) in an sr20DET powered infiniti g20 sedan and that thing was slow compared to my friends s13 stock for stock boost and the sr was running higher boost. Also, so I don't look like an ***, I know that the G20 is a heavy **** car comming in at around 3200lbs curb weight. I know this could make a difference, but I just felt like the displacement/torque/horsepower difference between them (since everyone seems to love them) would be greater. My friends motor, I rebuilt on a saturday last march, twas fun

Sorry to hijack the thread, and my speakers on my computer are crap, so it may have been them

Oh and also, I refuse to make the argument that the block makes a difference in either of those engines as the sr is actually 45-50lbs heavier than the ca and about 15-30lbs heavier than the stock truck motor they put in there stock here in the U.S.

direct acting Valve train (almost identical to the vg30de(t) and rb(skyline)series motors)

Crap run
to me it looked like early shifting, letting off gas WAY to early at the end of the track, and also on the start he went too far and it looked like he was about to back up. I dont know, it could just be me.

I believe the CA18 is crap. Yes its true the valvetrain is beefier on the CA STOCK. But who gives a **** about stock when your talking about performance? Two of my friends here have 240s. One was a CA that made 340 with a fully built head and bottom end with a Precision 61 and the other was a SR20 with a fully built bottom end with only cams and rocker arm stoppers and made 383 with a Precision 61. They were both running 1.3 bar. The SR makes 476whp @ 26psi. Some say the CA is stronger because of the cast iron block but I disagree. Anyway back on topic, that FD is slowballs. What a shame.
