I know, but it is only a matter of time before technology catches up.

re-rx7 08-06-08 10:21 AM

Yea i watched that and still it amazes me that a 15 yr old car can still manage to keep up with twin clutch, attessa awd, twin turbo v6.

Right on. The link was dead, but after some searching I found it. Bad ass man, that RE FD is big!

fd3s_7 08-06-08 10:14 PM

not just saying because im an fd fan but from this performance against a R35 GTR is just staggering. like mr.amemiya said, mazda has to come up with something very special to top this fd3s. this re amemiya rx7 is still running stock turbos and full interior trim for god sake :D just unbelievable

speedjunkie 08-06-08 11:12 PM

It says that video was removed due to copyright infringement...that sucks, I really wanted to see it. Does anyone know of another link?

just type this in the search bar: r35 gtr vs rx7 video

That worked for me

speedjunkie 08-07-08 08:22 PM

Thanks dial8!

...And still champion!

Looked like Keichei (sp?) lost control a little around the first corner, maybe he was just letting it slide a little. And the first run looked like a pretty good match actually, alot better than what the FEED FD did to the S15, ouch.

The second run looked like a good match too, in both vids they would pull away from each other out of the corners. And that GT-R handled damn good for it's weight. But OUCH at the end hahaha.

IMO The RX7 didnt win that battle. It didnt lose, but it certainly didnt win...

a) The RX7 took a rolling start on its run. Power difference or no difference, that makes it not a fair fight. And added to that, the GTR Sticks on the 7's ass all through the corners.

b) If the sudden death had been the R35 first, im sure it would have won. IMO in some ways it did win - in the run with the RX7 ahead, notice how far apart the cars are a few turns from the end. Then notice how the gap has spread over the finihs line...something makes me think maybe the RX7 broke just before the end or something, causing the R35 to lose speed and spreading the gap.

Who knows?

The track did look damp though, im sure the rX7 would have fared better in the dry, given the immense drive that the GTR is going to have out of the corners (AWD)

The amemiya car is an awesome, awesome car, and my favourite FD Ever. But simply put - i think that when this car finally does get knocked off the top spot (which in my heart, it already has - by the R35 in that video) that its going to be knocked off by the R35.

Good video but a bad format for a fair and complete comparison. Make those runs a time attack type affair (timed runs on your own) and im pretty sure the GTR would have breezed it.

I dont' know what the rolling start really proved to you with anything, because they were both doing rolling starts regardless of who was leading, and for the most part there has almost ALWAYS been a rolling start in the touge battles. It is just that sometimes the leader took too long to start so the chase car would have to just about come to a stop to avoid passing the other car. 500hp GT-R + weight vs 480hp FD + weight would actually favor the FD in theory. You then have to factor in the clutch, and shifting of the FD vs the Paddleshift of the GT-R.

well hats off to the s2k but it was rainy. god that re rx7 car is amazing

The rolling start proved to me that it wasnt a totally fair race...

Touge battles are fun to watch, but that one was just far to close to say the FD won, it couldve gone either way - and put them both on a circuit and time laps, i think the GTR would win.

Then basically EVERY touge competition can't be a totally fair race to you since they all do rolling starts. This isn't about who gets to the first corner first, its about keeping up or pulling away.

No doubt, a circuit would allow the GT-R to stretch its legs a little easier as well as the fact that most circuits are "smooth" and constantly kept in better condition than our public roads (go figure, right?). The whole purpose of these competitions is to put fast cars in a "real world" environment, not the controlled environment of circuits, and see how they fare against one another. There has always been the saying "anything can happen on the streets" and thats they angle they're working from. Keep in mind RE's FD has more street time than the MCR's brand new GT-R so even with the numbers stacked against the FD, it has the advantage of seat time. Of course it'll take very little seat time for the GT-R to be fine tuned enough the destroy the FD.

BobfisH 08-15-08 06:42 PM

I know what you mean about it being a street competition, lets put it this way - do the FD and the GTR time attack style and i think the GTR would win.

It was just too far up the behind of the rx7 the whole time, and the rx7 couldnt pull a gap on it either...

fd3s_7 08-16-08 05:18 PM

a rx7 with full interior trim and sound system to beat a brand new godzilla modified is good enough imo. its still the touge king. and for the guy who wanted to know where to download the new hot version touge dvd its on seedpeer.com/best motoring and you should see hot version vol.93 there to download. thats the latest dvd which shows this r35 gtr battle in full length.

where can i find the specs on that fd?

matty 08-20-08 07:24 AM
