perhaps never-before-seen behind-the-scene RX7 pics
posted this over at probetalk & mx6.com couple years ago, never posted here, so here they are now:
im a car design grad and working in a socal studio as a modeler right now, i attended the academy of art univ. in san fran. the director of my auto design program is a pretty established and respected figure in the profession having worked for GM, BMW, Mazda etc. in his career. his name is Tom Matano, most known for his work at mazda, which included the design of the mx6, miata, and yes, the rx7. he showed us a slide show, teaching us about visual weight distribution and other philosophy behind "good" (timeless) designs. in the slideshow were some images of some of these vehicles back when they were still in the concept/design/development stages, which i believe have never been seen by most here. enjoy:
the US mazda design facility that he actually helped design
1st gen rx7 design sketch, model, and final
development sketches for the 2nd gen rx7
3rd gen rx7 full scale model, with a couple of inspiration vehicles presence...inside the US studio
the comparatively [much] smaller japanese studio...

for some who might care about the mx6, he also showed us some ORIGINAL drawings by some of his colleagues (i believe his last name is shin, according to tom, he's heading/starting some car company in taiwan now).
to my surprise, tom whipped out these original mazda drawings, which appears to be front detail studies of the 323, a newer 626, and of course, the 1st gen MX-6
enjoy
