How do you polish manifolds?
I am looking to polish my UIM and LIM... I was wondering what tools I would need to do it. I know that some places offer this as a service, but I was curious to know how to do it myself.
youll need a heavy duty bench grinder that you attach buffing wheels, then you get a lot of emery compounds( cutting, buffing, polishing), AN ENTIRE WEEK to work on them and then you'll need the number of a local shop to finish the project you started because you'll be so tired after about an hour of trying that you'll pay to have it done.
I tried myself after listening to two other guys tell me it wasnt worth my time to do it. Thats how i know. Honestly just pay the 100-200 to get it done professionally and save yourself the time and mess. This is also comming from somebody that doesnt let ANYONE work on my car, but i had to give in that time.
Hope this helps.

Polishing is easy if you care about your car and plan on putting the time into it. I suggest polishing the parts while your waiting for an engine rebuild or something bcuz it takes time. I polish my own parts all the time and they come out great, plus you get the satisfaction of opening your bonnet and saying, "yup, I polished that!"
The thing is, you really don't want to polish your intakes bcuz the rough surface that is on there now makes for better heat depletion across the surface. Polishing them is going to make the intake heat up more and lower you power. If you are just using it as a DD or showcar then go for it....but, that's my opinion, you don't have to listen to me on it. If you do need tips on polishing let me know bcuz I have some great tips....and using a bench grinder is NOT one of 'em.
