The "R" stands for Rotary, while the "X" stands for sport.

For Sporty cars, the first letter denotes either engine type or Segment type, followed by an X that stands for sports. For example, the RX-8 means: Rotary Sports 8, the MX-5 means piston-engine sports 5, and the all new CX-7 means Crossover Sports 7. For RX Series it has always meant Rotary Sports, we expanded on that in the 1980's to include piston sports.

i dont think people will ever not argue about what engine is in the rx-7. but to me, keep them rotary. people can put in whatever motor they want in their car, but i'd be alot more happy to see them not do it to my favorite car.

one word HINSONSUPERCARS go to that website and look at that ls1 rx7. And than come back on here and tell me that you can beat that. YEA ******* rite. You dont have a shot at 90% ls1 rx7's. Ive owned 2 single turbo rotarys with streetports and yes very quick but not fastttttttt like the true power of torque and R E L I A B I L I TY. My ls1 can mak thousands of passes, how about your v8 rx7 killer??????????????

sorry

Actually im sorry for writing that to you and all the rotards. Please disregard that last message. I just get so angry that everyone thinks the ls1 is a stupid idea. I just cant keep dishing out tons of rebuild money on my 13b. Again sorry rotary guys. Please no more fighting on this subject. When it comes down to it, we all have one hell of a bad *** car weather it has a rotary, ls1, or 2jz. All the fd's are panty droppers. Opps im married

I have an idea, my personal opinion is a v8 swap defeats the purpose of what the 7 stands for and just in referance the rx has been a symbol of all models with a rotary so I put the two together. Since FD stands for the body year and the 7 stands for the series why dont we call it a "FDLS7" sounds fair yeah.
