I am in the process of stripping some wires out of my wiring harness and was wondering if the variable resistor does anything with the Rtek 2.0. I was going to remove it from the engine bay and wiring harness. I know the stock computer uses it to adjust idle a/f mixture, but does the Rtek negate this function or do I need to leave it there?

I believe right now you do need it. As soon as the new 2.0 update comes out, it will not be needed and can be used as a 0-5v input.

 

If thats the case, I will just pull the wires for it out of the harness bundle and leave it coiled up next to the ecu, but not remove it completely. I can remove it when/if I get the ecu updated.

 

Sounds like a good idea. In the new version we are supposed to be able to tie our widebands into the variable resister wire, which will make the atmo sensor work normal again.

wideband O2. There are up to two inputs on the ECU that
can be used to connect external sensors to, the Atmospheric
Pressure Sensor (ATP) input and the Variable Resistor
(VarRes) input. Please see Chapter 3 for information
regarding the availability of this feature for your ECU type.

So unless im reading this wrong we should be able to use the ver res to log wideband, and set the atmo back to normal.
