I have a Tungsten T3 and I like it but it does the same thing you might be able to get away with finding a palm that can save data to an add in sd card (or equivalent) and save the rtek software to that. otherwise

If you get a newer tungsten (T5 , T/X,) or a Treo phone, they all use flash memory instead of ram so even if the battery dies, you won't lose the program.

The downside is they all use a serial hotsync cable that is nearly $50.

I have a Palm Vx and have never had the batteries die completely, although the palm I have had it turn off on its own(low low battery).

So, would I lose all my maps and programs if the battery completely died? It sure sounds like it according to my research. I did not know this.

Fuuu, so glad it hasn't yet, Going to save and backup my maps now. Is there any way to splice in a car charger to the serial cable? That would be nice. Hmmm...

A way to charge the palm while in the car would be nice and very possible with a little work. Just gotta find what pins on the pda are for battery and then measure the amps and volts that come out of its dock that are used to charge it and then duplicate those charging volts and what not and splice those wires into the sync cable... sounds simple but easier said than done. Wish palm thought that one through completely.
