Old performance chips

Can digital tuning remove old performance chips before instaling their own? I have an old ecu with a hpertec chip and want to instal a 1.5 rtek7 chip

If it's just the chip, shouldn't be a problem. If there are mods to the board, then I probably wouldn't want to touch it.
