Rx7.com's GSL-SE

i was reading about yall's 85 SE that you raced in 97 that was pulling low 13's. i was just wondering the specs on it, was it still NA or boosted, and what kinda mods that you had done at that time to it?

If that's the car I think it was, they used to have it at the shop. I thought it got sold but I'm not sure. It was silver and it's license plate read BLOWN7 since it was roots supercharged. I have the article on it somewhere. For it's time, it was a pretty sweet car.

Yup, they both were run by Ken Scheepers and supported by RP. I remember being there to visit chris and ari and hearing the PP'ed FB on the dyno......made like 350 n/a IIRC, and man oh man did it sound MEAN!

He's thinking of Chris' black GSL-SE. I don't remeber the details of the turbo setup but it did not have a motor swap. Beautiful car.

heres whats on the website

In 1997, we took our trusty 1985 GSL-SE to our first sanctioned drag race event. The event was Import vs. Domestics and import drag racing is in its fetal stages. We were just out to have some fun; but ended up getting a taste of what racing is like and we’re hooked. Oh, for the record, we did not win that event but did run a 13.3@106mph. Respectable numbers, especially back in the days.

That is Chris' car that I mentioned, I lived in Dallas at the time and was at that 1997 event.

Ari's superchargered car mentioned was a silver and not a GSL-SE. Ken Scheeper's wasn't around in 1997.

No one has mentioned Andy's 1980 Rx7 from those days, it was a gray/greenish color with a 4-port 13B and turbo that would have been in the 11's or 12's around 1997. He ultimately got down in the 10's before moving on and selling the car to RP.

Sorry, I just re-read your post. The car I was referring to is much more recent, like 2001 or 2002, not 1997.

I was there and wrote the original info about Chris's GSL-SE for the website. He can comment more about it than I, my memory is a bit faded, but it was a turbocharged 13B running a Haltech F-9A. It was a pure street car, and absolutely immaculate. I only hope he still has it. It was a rare exterior/interior color combo and he took great care of it, as with all his cars. It was as far from a drag car as you can get but Chris just wanted to see what it could do that weekend and had a great time.

Andy's SA22C (in the picture, what's a FB anyway??) was originally a 12A, then turbo, then 13B turbo, and eventually as it was when he sold it to RP. That car was a street racer special, and incredibly fast. To this day I'll never forget Mike Ferrera from then Turbo magazine trying to help John Brown with his Civic during the Quick 8 final at Ennis to beat Andy because "no one wants to see some old rotary beat a Honda" in order to sell more magazines.

I have a LOT of old RP photos I'll try and dig up sometime...

Ahh, the good ol' days.
Trey
