what is the weak link

kinda new to the rotary world.in my RX2 i have an FD engine.this is a bone stock FD port engine no mods at all.the only thing i have in this engine are the rotary aviation super seals.this car does not have a mid plate.it has a C4 transmission.i have not had this car on the dyno to verify the horse power but with the times i have ran it is making right at 500 HP. i know from my bad tune ups in the past that detonation brakes apex seals.what usually brakes first even with a good tune up?are the fd 5 speed front and rear irons better the the early irons?are there any symptoms i should watch for?

Give it hell! You will know when thew time has come.

Everyone used to say 500 was a time bomb but Enzo and his brother have proved that wrong a few times. I would think no oil mods and rotor clearence would be the issue if any with a dead on tune. But then again WTF do I know..

But with all the new numbers coming out on a bone stock block I am thinking thats what I am going to start with on my rx3. Going to put all the big bucks in the suspension and tranny set up.

your coming into the rotary world with a 500 HP Rx-2? not a bad cherry-popper at all.

i'd say try your best to control temperatures. that should keep it happy. there are some interesting threads on the subject if you want to read up on it.

Assuming everything is perfect probably the first thing to let go would be the rear iron. I wouldn't imagine that would happen till well over 750hp though. Once you get into that neighborhood shaft flex and rotors contacting the irons would start to become a problem also.

IMO asides from apex seals breaking other problems will be-
Cracked plates around the top dowel positions,(front plates generally)
Cracked front plates above the stat gear
Stuck side seals
Damaged bearings from revving real hard or wrong plugs/bad tuneup
Spun rotor bearings
