Perhaps it looks that way, but the yoke has full length engagement when the car is on the ground.

I see the car is Fueltech now? or am I wrong?

Yes it has a FT400. I really wanted to make a full pass with the holley so I currently have it set up to use the holley for fuel and the Fueltech is controlling timing. After I play with it a bit I will switch it to an E&J.

That's what I put on both cars. FT400. So far, very good computer. Your rx3 is coming out really nice man.

I finally made it to the track yesterday. I got passes and managed to go all the way down the track! lol. I've shot myself in the foot with the huge tires. The car bogs really bad on the launch but I still managed 11.94 at 117.8
That's on unleaded race gas and with the junk Holley! It's not a race carb with down leg boosters or a racing beat carb. Just a stock double pumper with a choke that I calibrated to run on the 13b. Car was really rich. Showing lambda of .87 at the start of each gear and .82 by the top of each gear.
I'd like to lean it out some and work on the launch. Not sure what more improvements I might get out of it. Still running split timing. I didn't try messing with any of that. Was just concerned at getting the cobwebs out and just actually going through the motions and making it down the track. I haven't made a pass in a decade.

Car is looking bas azz! :icon_tup:

Any kind of clutch flow control?

Here is a vid of the pass.
I think I will be testing motor only this year. I don't want to run nitrous till I switch the car to EFI.

Doc Holiday 06-11-17 01:21 PM

Went to the track again. lol put a bunch of air pressure in to try to keep it from bogging. It spun really bad.

Try installing a small jet in your flow control valve.

I'm down to a .019 from a .024. Was running a 6puk and now on a sintered disc. Had a .022 in it when it was doing the wheels up thing on the sintered disc. Now with the .019 the front wheels stay on the ground and it the cars feels so much more drivable. Still run very low 1.3 60 ft times.

I have a .030 in it now and it spins about 8 or ten feet and then hooks and bogs down to 5000rpm. I'm launching at 10500. My gearing is really tall for the motor. I don't even get into top gear on the pass. I click it right as I cross the finish.

You are using the Clutch Masters flow control valve? Where did you get the smaller jets? I called and they didn't have anything other than ones it came with (.050, .040, .030). I asked for blanks but they said they wouldn't sell those either.

sleeper7 06-12-17 04:29 PM

Made my own flow control valve.
but heard guys modifying a nitrous jet for the one you have.

I'm in the process of switching it to an EFI throttlebody and getting a tune on the Fueltech. I moved the fuel cell up front.

What sensors did you have to add to go FI? i know the E&J takes a TPS. What else did you have to add? How does it run compared to the old Holley?

Its kind of a convoluted story. When I first dynoed the car I had the holley and a distributor and a "simple" wiring harness that fed analog Auto Meter gauges.
Then I got the Fueltech and rewired the whole car to have the Fueltech control the timing but still use the Holley for fuel delivery. I just wanted to see how fast I would go with the Holley on a Pport. The Fueltech controlling timing was a bit nicer than the locked distributor timing, and it had the really awesome side benefit of being a terrific datalogger. When I wired the car, I just wired it as if it already had fuel injectors and the various sensors. The injector harness uses a Deutsch connector to simply unplug from the rest of the main harness. So basically all I did was plug the tps in and plug in the injector harness when I bolted the E&J on.

The Fueltech will run the car with nothing more than a TPS and a crank sensor, but you can add all the other standard sensors to not only log, but you can have the Fueltech do various things based on what the sensor tells it (example: pull timing if water temp goes above a certain value).

Ive lit the car with the Fueltech and injectors, but somehow managed to get very unlucky and had a bad injector that would fire intermittently. That was tough to figure out. I ended up sending them to be flow tested to find that out. Ive ordered replacements, but haven't even tried lighting the car again yet. Its very loud so I usually tow the car somewhere out of town to mess with it.

nice set u have , i always wanted to try a holley set up on pp all motor but never got it done , im still holley but blowthru on e85 , if u ever come to vegas let me know and we can do something with the cars

Doc Holiday 01-20-20 02:20 PM

Well I finally got around to putting a turbo on the RX3. I just turboed the 13b pport motor that was already in it. I tuned it myself and I have no idea what I’m doing lol. I’ve never done this before. I spent the afternoon on the dyno and never managed to turn the boost up. I started at 20psi and ended the day at 20psi. I only revved the motor to 9500, I’m just afraid to hurt it. The motor isn’t balanced or reinforced in any way and it’s 6 port plates.
I made 547 at 20psi (uncorrected. I live at 4200ft elevation but I’m not convinced that matters with a turbo). I’m hoping that I can tune more at the track and add maybe 5 or 10psi of boost to it with this motor. Who knows, I may have to go back to the dyno to dial it in more.
