My Drag Racing "Flashback" Picture Thread

I used to go to quite a few events and take scores of pictures... so I figured I'd share some old event pictures with my freinds.

Back in the day we used to call that car the "Batmobile" ... many say that's where the name "Gotham" Racing came from.

You might notice in the 2001 pics he nix'd the wing.

Thanks, I didn't have very sophisticated camera equipment back then, so picture quality may vary.

Those are the best rebuilds, when you only gotta remove the back plate

Wow! I remembered that weekend. I was tuned to run only one power adder(turbo). It made approx 580rwhp on turbo at 30psi. This was with a T66 BTW. My boost spiked to 37psi in the qualifying instead of the normal 30psi and ended up cracking an apex seals. I rebuild it that night and did a tune on the street and ended up winning that class. I also sheer couple of tooth on my ring/pinion at the launch in the final. That was with a 1.41s 60' launching at 7500rpm w/ 20psi of boost. I believed Robert Live was at the christmas tree when I launched and told me I lifted the front wheels of the ground in 1st and 2nd gear. I think Ari was in a different class (2 power adder) that weekend.

I blew a total of two engines at the track in my racing career. One was the picture posted here in Houston, the other was at Colorado. My car ran lean in the qualifying and cracked an apex seals (damn hurleys). I made it to the quick 8 racing a white supra who was running consistant low 12's, high 11's. At the staging lane, we were chatting and I told the supra guy that my engine blew. He thought I was lying and saying I was sandbagging him. I then started the car and have his mechanic listened to the car. He agreed with me and told the driver that my engine was blown. I told him that my car should run low 13's as-is so I would tree him to get the jump on him. I told him better not to sleep at the light or I would win. He laughed at me and thought it will be a easy win. At the race, I got a .43s reaction time (basically.03) and launched the crap outta it (1.48s 60'). I got a good 6-7 cars on him in mid track then my car started running crappy so I coasted to the finish line with a 13.3@80mph and beat him by a good .5 sec. Apparently, He freaked out at the light and then missed 2nd gear. He was pretty pissed off afterwards knowing that he got beat by a blown engine rx7. Semi-final was a race against Dan (black Rx7), I got a good jump on him also but once the car gets in 3rd again, my engine would flood itself and he passed by me and won.

It was a fun weekend nontheless.

My car is down right now. I blew the engine a month ago while I was tuning it. It made 600rwhp@26psi. The trigger timing jumped on me at 7krpm and popped an apex seals. I just got some NRS grey seals to try out so hopefully I can get it running good again soon.

GT42 turbo, race street port and C16 fuel. I was talked into using these seals and I didn't want to spend anymore money with this car. It's almost not worth it anymore. I had to order another M&W ignition amp since the other was stolen

Aren't those M&W systems very expensive? Why don't you use one of the less expensive alternatives? Heck, I made my 600+ on one 6AL and TII coils.

Just get it going and enjoy it for awhile........ no point in going all out right away. Heck, you probably forgot how to drive it
