Liquid to Air IC

OK, well since I decided to make one of my FD’s dedicated to the track ( see sig for why it happened) Its all back to 100%, the damage was more cosmetic than structural. Car has 10pt CM cage, all the NHRA requirements.
It’s going to paint in about a week or 2, so I’m starting to decide if/what I want to change. I currently have the Apex FMIC, which has been great so far, but just for the time sitting in the pit lanes I know a Liquid/Air would be more efficient.
I’ve never been one to skimp but I keep seeing these PWR liquid to air ic’s every where (even e-bay which is whats scaring me)
And prior to seeing them on e-bay I was actually contemplating one of these for my application. Additional $’s needed after I sell the apex shouldn’t kill me, and in theory would give me cooler intake temps. But since their efficiency seems to be hoopla I’m wondering if it will be worth while compared to the fmic I have. Sure after I get moving ill have substantial air flow over the fmic core, but would a cheaper IC running ice water be better? Additionally I could run the ice water while in the pits, there for avoiding heat soak by keeping the core cool during the wait.
Ideas? Opinions? Previous experience?

It shouldnt be hard at all to fab one up. IMO the best option would be to submerge an A-A core in a tank, run the intake charge through the core like you normally would, but move water over the core where ambient air normally would. Hell you could do it with a stock core if you wanted to, though at a point the stock core would become a restriction to the intake charge.

Basically you could pack the return side of the tank with ice and let the water filter through it. Pack it before you drive off to stage, turn on the water pump just before you stage and the ice would stay mostly unmelted until the run was over.

You WILL go through a lot of ice though. When I was in the GTP scene the w-a IC'd engine could burn through a 5 lb bag of ice in one run. THey would use a 5 gallon cooler in the trunk of the car, load it with ice before they staged and would come back with all the ice melted.
