Lets talk tires...

So I'm in the market for a pair of tires for my 10AE. I've really been thinking about getting a pair of mickey thompson E.T.Drag's.

I have a pile of rims laying around here in both 15" and 16"... I'd like to find some skinny wheels but it doesn't look like that will happen anytime soon, and noone seems to make a 16" skinny tire to fit our "donut" wheels.

So now, about the rear.... they have two tire sizes that seem to be closest to ideal.

24.5x8-15
and
26.0x9.5-16

24.5 puts me at 7000 rpm in 4th at about 122MPH.. I'll probably be trapping around 125-126 which is 7300 RPM range. For some reason my power peaks early and this is about ideal.

26.0 puts me at 7k in 4th at 127MPH, so I'd be trapping around 6800, but I'd have more traction off the line with the larger contact patch.

I'm not sure how much traction I can really use though, people seem to break transmissions around the 1.5 sec 60' range...

Any thoughts or advice here? I'm really leaning towards the 15" for the gearing advantage at this point.

Firestone makes a bias ply front runner 16" tire, or you can use bias ply motorcycle tires on the donut spares.

I couldn't find 16" fronts, the place I deal with couldn't get firestones and everyone else isn't willing to pay for them for me, so I'll just deal with having street tires on the front. I'm a little leary of using motorcycle tires.

I bought the 15's, they seem to be pretty awesome.

Call CCW for the 16" Firestone skinnies. Make sure whatever front tire you get is bias ply to go with the ET Drags.

For the rear keep in mind that the ET drags will grow about an inch or so at the big end. Take thatn into account when you do your RPM calculations.

I run ET Streets on my FC. 26/9.5/15. Keep in mind that the sizing for ET drags is different than the ET streets. ET streets are measured at the sidewall, ET drags measure the actual rubber on the ground.

go with the 10.5s. Your 60ft times will suffer from the 9.5s IMO. I run 26/10.5/16 on the FC with 1.6 60ft times and a few 1.5s when the track is preped. stock turboII axles, drive shaft and diff.

Andrew, what kinda 60ft times you get with the 9.5s?
