17 PSI

The dyno is a load bearing so that may help me controll things a little better.

I picked up some BeNol and was wondering what ratio everyone is mixing? I had been using one ounce per gal but i don't think that is enough for meth.

Also will the caster bean oil help protect the aluminum in the fuel system and or prevent the methanol for absorbing water?

With alcohol due to the volume of fuel involved you can get into major problems if ran too rich especially with too retarded timing. One missfire with all that fuel inside the motor and kiss it goodbye. Same for being too lean also. Some of the times you won't even run into detonation from being to lean but you will burn up a lot of parts when everything gets really hot. EGT's plays an important role with alcohol fuel. For example a friend was running 50psi yesterday on his 13B with a fuel system that was setup to only run about 30psi. He did not blow the motor and it was a half track pass when he realised the boost was just a little too high!
Another example of running to lean with methanol is when sparkplugs come out with the electrodes missing resulting in multiple crack housings but no apex seal damage. Running too rich and you end up with broken/cracked side housings around the intake port side and also dented rotors from trying to compress all that fuel.
Honestly not many tuners are willing to discuss methanol/alcohol tuning secrets. It takes a lot of of time to gain that experience not to mention no one wants to be responsible when **** goes wrong. One of the main reasons why most stick to a particular combination that works for them.
Allen you will be getting a PM very soon.
Thank you for some good inputs Chris! Came to think what to do about the 13Bs weak parts to make it hold up better to lean or to much fuel issues when boosting high numbers. Racing Beat aluminium side housings won't crack as stock one does but costs a fortune. What about block fill the waterjackets in critical areas? Could work if used with methanol. The problem with dented rotors could maybe be almost fixed if you could pour in melted TIN or similar in critical areas under the rotor flancs to make it hold up better to extreme pressures. The rotorhousings is as i see it the most difficult to strength but filling in the waterjackets with block filler or similar and then use a small drill to let the coolant flow through the motor. This is for a alcohol motor as i see it. Who knows, some of the fastest Puert Ricans has maybe done this for years to make 1000+ hp on a 13B?

OK i finally got some time on the dyno and now have more questions. First thing i noticed is after a couple pulls i had a considerable amount of methanol in the catch can (4-5 OZ). I thought it was water at first but it has a definite methanol smell. How does so much meth get into the catch can?

Every thing that could have gone wrong on the dyno did. I have a few more bugs to sort out and then it's off to the track.

Also, how often should i change the oil. I put pump gas in it this morning and got the oil up to operating temp (180). At first i was getting water and methanol out of the engine but after a while it cleared up. Is that enough or do i need to change the oil?

Sounds like the catch can is doing its job. It was amazing how much methanol you get in the blowby. It also may be running rich. I had a fouled plug and the amount of methanol in the catch can was a bunch.
My oil didnt seem to break down as bad as i thought it would but im sure crispeed and others are a much better source of info.

Hopeing to see the race vids soon, best of luck!

yeah you always going to have methanol on the catch can, before every pass always empty the can, and always change the oil after a dyno day or after you race, i learn the hard way so try to change it every time , so you are putting gas and letting it run for a while, so how you like the smell of methanol?

Thanks. Yeah, i have two maps and i ran it for about 30 min on gasoline. The oil smells nothing like methanol and the catch can was empty, should i be ok?

The dyno was in a small non ventilated enclosed room
