Some brands that have made a major impact on the industry as of late would be NRS, PTS and SCR apex seals.

If you are serious about your apex seals, I think the NRS guys have proven their product...

Supposedly that's in the order you go from top to bottom when setting up a new combination.
Pick your level.
I just skipped the beginner and novice levels and went straight to level 3! :rlaugh:

then it should really matter to you or any other racer
what other builders are doing right?

Thats there point that arrogant comment is what keeps them from sharing anything
do it on your own don't copy them and prove your better or as good

Ken has gotton alot of input from alot of racers
like Kilo and Tito and Dee etc.....don't think he came up with the setup
the first setup was built by someone else and that setup was nothing but headaches

Black
Grey choose your color

AnthonyNYC 04-30-07 07:41 PM

The black seals are made by a guy in orlando named Kenny. When I was in Florida for the Moroso event Dee introduced me to him. I bought a few sets of seals directly from him. I spoke to him indepth for a while asking a lot of questions. I have had the seals since last year. Ken runs them in his car as well. When I bought them last year I paid over $300 a set. From what I understand, they will not break. If you run lean they will warp and will not damage the rotor or the housing. You just replace the seal.

I built my motor this past weekend with these new seals. So far the vacuum is the same and all else seem the same. A few friends are now running them in their cars as well so we will know how they do on a street car. As for the rotary aviation seals, they are the same ones, I believe Kenny sells them to Rotary Aviation and a number of other vendors. I have also seen a few of these being duplicated and sold as his. He mentioned to me to look for the bronze etching in the name of the seal to know they are his.

Also, your last sentence was confusing. Are you saying they do or don't use the RA Super Seals?

Yeah it's neat reading that interview with ken. He and kilo are good friends and kilo is the one who built his motor (witch by the way if you haven't read already is a half bridge port :D :D :D ) ok sorry I just like that alot. I wish that the puerto rican guys wouldn't distance themselves so much from "gringos" because I really like listening to them talk about what they've been though with thier build and what they have found that works etc... They have so much information that when a friend of mine and one of these guys get on the phone I can talk to him for hours and normally I can't talk on the phone longer than 5 minutes without getting the gitters to hang up. We just need to all get along!!!!! :)

lol thats what I've heard, I've never tested that theory though :D On topic though, I've asked alot of these dragsters if they run ceramic and they all say no. now I'm not asking tons of guys it's namely about 2 or 3 of them and they all say no. But maybe this is a budget responce and not a performance responce?

How about some more information on these ? Who's running them?

I think alot of the seals on the market are black and are made by one company and they must sell them to other companies or at least thats what I've heard. I'm not sure on the specs but everytime I talk to a puerto rican they are always saying black seals. Sounds nice that they don't break! I'm all for that but I don't know if it's bad about premature housing wear witch is why I got away from the RA seals (not thier super seals).

Viking War Hammer 05-01-07 12:26 PM

Alright, so these black seals are supposed to warp instead of break, right ?

That sounds like Hurley’s old slogan. Those seals would break if a bird crapped on your hood.

Seriously, are these black “super” seals supposed to be the real deal or what ?

rotor_dee 05-01-07 03:17 PM

Kenny's seals are the real deal!!! And i paid for mine :)

I use the same ones. Knock on wood, they're holding up fine. One day I may actually run the car down the track.

Didn't you dyno 700+rwh on the Atkins heat treated seals ?
At what point did they fail ?

Thanks
JD

Ernie, you're running these black seals ? You said in your dyno thread that you were using the cryo'ed atkins seals ?
