I'm out and done with this thread late

TweakGames 01-03-11 06:17 PM

Love my ls1. Took 4 weekends working alone to install it and get it autox ready. You couldn't pay me to go back to rotary. Now the only thing that keeps me from driving is snow. After selling all the parts from my z28 I picked up for $2.8k, I came out almost even. So far the engine has lasted two complete events and drove home all by itself getting 27 mpg along the way. That is 2 more events than any of my rotaries have ever lasted and over 10 mpg better fuel economy while making more power than my 13b-RE ever did.

I dont understand why you keep talking about facts when all you do is listen to what others say and the BS Ray feeds you on why your motors keep breaking so you continue to pay the bills.

Just keep paying the bills, leave the facts to the people who have done it.

and is that 3600 price 5 years old ? I remember calling last year to Hempstead Mazda and was quoted 5500.00 for a real all brand new motor.. Whatever was left of the refurb ones were selling for 3600.

Yea the one event wasn't a full field, but still twice as many people that you or your brother ever raced:lol::lol::lol: So I guess sitting on the two step for 10minutes is ok when you have nobody next to you racing against a clock, lol..And the second race I went rounds against a full field, #10 qualifer beating everyone i raced, again something you wouldnt know about. Stick to your junkyard motor cause nobody in your shop knows how to build them lol...So if you ever get a cage in your hunk of shit, bring it out this summer. Don't try and run an 8 cause you'll bend your seals too, lmao.

^^IIRC, your problems sounded to me more like 'operator error' than anything, so take your v8 loving ways over to norotors ;)

turboR1, this is Rich---- we've met a few times when I came out to LI for some tuning. You're a real nice guy in person.

Let's try and keep this thread civil, if all you guys want to shit talk and measure cocks, than start another thread. I think there have already been a few of those, so take it over there

Edit: just to clear things up: Ray at Malloy Mazda stocks and sells brand new (brand new, not reman) engines, current pricing is $4150 plus shipping.

zeaone 01-03-11 07:11 PM

Wow just Wow

Narfle 01-03-11 07:31 PM

Holy Fucking Shit! Can't we all just get along? ito, enzo, and ernie getting into it? Untwist your panties, gentlemen. We're all buddies here.

enzo250 01-03-11 07:49 PM

Ito is a tough critic, alway's has been but at least he's a man and a mature one...

Ernie is a whole another story...

Either way you guys have fun cause i'm checking out as well..

Yes I agree or a balance issue. I think he dynoed 400 something so I don't see how it could be a twisting issue when there are guys making alot more power with stock parts and having no issues.

Then why are you on a rotary forum and in a rotary drag racing thread?

Guys, if you have something to say that's not related to Chris' topic please take it to the lounge, that's what its there for. Let's try and help a fellow rotary racer who is having a hard time. :icon_tup:

Because there is the OP that has seen the light, is jumping ship, ditching the rotary, and you are all pissed because he is not going waste any more money trying to find the magical rotary fix to make the rotary a decent engine. I am telling him, in his thread about going v8, that I went ls1 and I am really REALLY enjoying it. I say don't look back and go for it. A built v8 is also extremely more sell-able if you don't like it.

Yeah I'm just pissed because I keep beating them, haven't seen an lsx swap that impress me. The only people that goes ls1 is ricer boy that doesn't know nothing about rotary. It takes a real man to handle the wankel.:D Now take that overweight pos car of your to it's proper section.

That still doesn't explain why you are on a rotary website?

I'll tell you why you are still here. You're still here because deep down you still love the rotary and it's in your heart. Your just not skilled enough to build and tune one so you went with the V8. So now you are feeling guilty for betraying your little rx7, so you come onto this website to make yourself feel better.

BTW, Chris is not putting a v8 in his car. He is sticking with the rotary so go troll somewhere else.

He just flexing his Joe Dirt Mullet hair on this section. I just wish he lives close so I can put him in his place.;)

rotorious13b 01-03-11 11:48 PM

I need to see the damage on chris's motor to get a better idea.( detonation inside a rotary engine translate to cracks ,spining, hitting, hot spots, all kinds of damage ) post some pics chris

You're entitled to your opinion, no matter how ignorant it is. You're right, I'm making over 500 rwhp on pump gas with my 'non-decent' engine..... all of the C6 vettes and AMG Mercs at Monticello raceway must have been scratching their heads when giving me point-bys alllllll day long

I frankly can give a shit..... one thing I *am* going to do, is remove some things from your sig. Don't add them back. Don't like it, find another forum.

rotorious13b 01-03-11 11:55 PM

where are the engine tuners? give some input

13B-RX3 01-04-11 12:30 AM

Chris. Give us some info about the car.

What does the fuel system consist of?
What ignition setup are you running?
What Timing are you running now and did you ever verify the marks?
Do the counterweights match the rotors? Does the flywheel match?
You're running a Haltech? Send me the map and i can take a look.
What bearings and e-shaft are you running?

TweakGames 01-04-11 01:38 AM

Lol, same ol crazy amounts of hostility for no reason. No reason people can't have an intelligent conversation about the engines. Not like anybody is losing a loved one, or directly attacking someone trying to hurt them.

I do want to say though that I have seen quite a few 500 hp ls1/2s in person, a few were even NA. We all know it all depends on how much money you want to spend, you can make anything fast with enough money. To me the OP seemed like he was tired of spending time and money on continually building and blowing up rotary engines at high horsepower levels. Enough to make a thread on the forum to announce is he jumping ship. It seems only logical to try a different platform, maybe something that can be repaired cheaper, has had a lot more research and upgraded parts made for, and has a higher starting base HP.

Somehow I lost 25 lbs off the front of my car so I don't think the weight is much of an issue. With the aluminum ls1 block, and the removal of the heavy turbo, manifold, oil cooler, and intercooler, I had to move some weight to the front during my last corner balance and went with a much larger radiator.

Again, none of this is attacking anybody, but if you want to get all defensive and attack me with random rotard statements because I am threatening your souled rotary way of lives go for it. It's kinda funny and sad.

If the OP wants to fall into the rx7club rotary peer pressure so be it. Good luck with your cars and builds either way. We all just want to go fast our own way. :D

D Walker 01-04-11 08:58 AM

Huh, did not think I was going tobe able to contribute t this thread but-

You had a GTU, no turbo, so I doubt you actually "lost" weight unless it was weight you or someone else added by adding or swapping a turbo to a GTU.

If you are not oil cooling the LSX, its not long for this world.

If you had to move weight "corner balancing" the car you or whomever did the "setup" have no clue what your doing, or they were just telling you what you wanted to hear. In either case a stock chassis -and I am assuming your stock chassis since your autocrossing- has far too much flex and binding in the chassis and suspension to really get an accurate corner balance, the best you can do is get a "best guess" and thats sort of pushing it. If I had to guess, since the trans is heavier than even the S5 Turbo trans, you picked up a bit of rear weight, which you then screwed up by moving weight back to the front. And no, ideal car balance is not 50/50 in a RWD car, and I would take 25lbs on the rear tires in a RWD car anyday over adding 25lbs in front of the axle. Dont believe me? Do some research- there is a reason Trans-Am and GT-1 cars are limited to how much weight can be on the rear tires :)

Glad your happy with your Camaro, but honestly no one here cares :) Thanks for dropping by, and have a pleasant day.

I will post pics tonight for you and rotorious13b tonight been a little bizzy these last couple nights thanks a lot guys

TweakGames 01-04-11 10:28 AM

Yes, somebody named Tweak put in a T04S, then a PT67. I thought this was clear when I said, "and the removal of the heavy turbo, manifold, oil cooler, and intercooler", but I guess not. The T04S was quite heavy.

The ls1 doesn't use an oil cooler stock, I am sure it will be fine for quite a while. They last what, 200,000 miles in stock form? I am at stock power levels so I am not worried. :)

I guess the digital scales could have some sort of rotary bias and lie to me when they didn't see the rotary engine. That seems logical. I had almost the same weight in the rear plus about 10 lbs I think. Might have had an extra gallon or two of fuel in there.

I'm not a hard core racer, I have fun with my car, and enjoy how it is able to be driven home under its own power after an event, and will for a while.

If you don't care, there is no reason to reply to me. I do enjoy my camaro engine powered rx7, and thanks, I will have a nice day. :) I have made my point so I guess I am done here also. Have a good day yourself.

D Walker 01-04-11 10:39 AM

There is a difference between scaling a car, and corner balancing the car. You brought it up acting like you knew something, but obviously you do not. Your comments above proves that you have no interest in actual conveersation, just trolling.

FWIW, I did an LS1 powered FD not long ago, it definitely wasnot cheaper than a rotary, did not put out the power = money spent, and I doubt it will be any more or less reliable in use.

As far as swaps, I am all for oddball powerplant swaps. Guy I know in Reno did a Ford CVH motor into a Fiat X-19 and turboed that, put small block chevy and ford into Volvos, and big blocks into deisel Mercedes. I put 500 Cadillac motors into S-10 Blazers, Toyota motors into MG Midgets, turbo 4G63's into Expo minivans and minitrucks and I might even put one in an FC RX7. Point is, motor swaps are fun and can be cool, but dont give me a bunch of BS about what is better or worse, just makes you look like an idiot.
