[QUOTE=rotorholic;10227003]Well put Jay, I seen dozens of well built rotaries at seven stock with big engines and turbos, They love racing and speed but wont support the races [/QUOT

Sad, but true without offending anybody. they look nice at sevenstock but they don't come out for the rest of the year . with motocross we practice 2 to 3 times during the week and race weekends...having more fun watching the kid race and me working on his bike ,don't get me wrong i love rotaries but i don't know if, I'll ever get the enthusiasm to get back into drag racing .I told Rene when he pairs up with Santos I'm coming to see that race for sure....

Joe, glad you are having fun with your family but to just hang it up like that, sorry but you don't love racing rotaries that much. If someone really loves doing something they will keep doing it and get their family involved. Look at John Force. He is still racing and he's about twice our age and has both of his daughters racing- Thats a love for the sport.

I know when my boy gets old enough, I am going to get him into junior dragsters and then when he gets old enough, racing rotaries. He's already geared up for it because he sees how much I love it and most boys want to do and follow in their old mans footsteps . And I'm going to be racing right next to him for as long as I can. And if he doesn't want to race or gets involved in another sport or whatever, that surely isn't going to keep me from doing what I love.

Maybe your boy(s) will do the same. Once they get old enough to drive cars and date girls, those motorcycles will most likely be collecting dust.

I think with my drag racing i went far but not far enough and that is always in the back of my mind . I always think like i have some unfinished business because , I came along way put in my time and money, worked hard on the car and went out and tested ,tested, and tested and finally had a reliable tune up and a car that can go straight and after my last pass at Irwindale in 2008 I went 5.78@107 the car bugged of the line , slipped the clutch bad so bad it needs a new clutch now and shut the car well before the lights .My thought was I can only improve from here, my choices are keep pressing or be happy with what i have now. With my kids racing is not just a hobby is become a way of life around here maybe later on he stops and decides to be a regular kid and do baseball , football or soccer ,but for now his pressing to be better at motocross which is by far not easy to do !! But the best thing about this is the father and son team ....I'm enjoying the moment !! about me not loving rotaries come on.... I built rotaries and drove rotaries from stock to p-ports to nitrous and now turbos is in my blood and in my lugs all the fumes rotary power is the law

I guess my point with John Force didn't get accross. I mean if you love doing something alot, then it doesn't matter how many records or how far you come, you will still do what you love, in this case drag racing. John Force has pretty much done it all and could have retired racing a long long long time ago. But has he? No, why? Because he loves to drag race, that's why. I'm not saying you don't love rotories but I am saying, you kind of fell out of love if you can just hang it up like that. You mentioned people that have rotary show/race cars that don't show up to events. Well, look in the mirror. When was the last time you raced at an event? Not trying to get on your case Joe, I think your a stand up guy. Just trying to get more people inolved in these events before it's too late. I mean surely you can make a couple events a year. This goes out to everyone out there, not just you.
We need to get out there guys and represent.

Jay I'm talking about people who are in the game. I haven't attended an import race or show in the last 4 years or more. What you are saying now, Rene and I were saying years ago. Where are all the rotor cars from those events?... no show!!! I'm happy to see you're doing it and having fun, but the story is the same the rotary community in Cali does'nt support drag racing, only a hand full. The old school drag racers... most of those have gone into drifting or other forms of racing, I guess they all fell out of love with the sport ?? My idea in regards to what you are saying would be putting together a day where we ( All the ROTORHEADS and Friends) can all get together at a track, where we can all do test and tune and run our cars... it doesn't have to be an event, we can just try and get everyone to agree on a date and place to get together at like Vegas, Bakersfield, or any other track. ... Let's see how much local support we can get!

I guess I don't know how many people you are refering to who were " in the game". Rene, yes he is drifting but he has also attended a couple of drag racing events so far and is going to get his 3 back up soon. These other guys your talking about, I don't know. I don't think there ever was that many to begin with, but maybe I'm wrong. Can you name some for me please. I can think of Abel. That is why even if one guys packs it up, that's one less guy racing out of the very few.

Regarding this get together. Everytime there has been an event for the past two years I have posted up the info and tell people like yourself to come down and have fun with friends and family in either the fun runs, bracket, or heads up. I also post when me and Chris go to test at Irwindale all the time, but it usually is only us two that ever show up. If you can remeber I drove all the way to Barona with my wife and son to watch you race your car and have many times at Irwindale also. I'll tell you what. You pick a date and time and I'll be there. I would really like to see your car make a full pass because I know it can run some really good numbers. So let me know. I know Chris and I are down everytime. Maybe you can have better luck getting people together than me.

Take care,

Jarrett

Good ole days....remember Joe and everyone i was saying the same thing years ago that all the cars are no show at the track.I attended almost every event and kicked some *** with my little 3 then switch to the all motor and got some good times and runs out of it and still no show for all those.

I gave up a bit because of the class selection they have at the races......with my 3 i cannot race any category because of my tranny, they tell me i need a stock tranny to race the quick class.....i have no place to run with this 3 only for fun. Then for the all motor all the FWD cars are paper clips on the all motor class they can run super light weight but they wont let the rotaries upgrade to at least a 3 rotor or loose some weight for 13B.

So for me to go out there and race for fun is not the same as it used to be where you race head up against real competition and real money. Now they pay like $500 for first place and only 3 cars show up....where is the competition? Its too expensive to run a car with all the goodies you put into it,good tranny and a good engine setup .Now i see it as more of a pride to run a car in this form and i guess thats why many have gave up because of the money you need to put into the car just to race ONE WHOLE day not TWO DAYs like the old days and only TWO Races a Year.

I still love the drag sport but until it gets back like it used to be i will be out there again.......So for now i am not a traitor moving into drifting i just did it for the business, this sport has taken off
and is still growing. So far i have more sponsors than ever and getting payed to do what i like to do drive and race big companies. So far for me and my team we got up to top 26th place this year, the competition is very tuff and thats what we really need a tough competition to make you realize your not the baddest of the teams.

I see everyone still has the burning edge to go out and race but for now we got to realize that some sports will not recover fast enough and drivers will need to face the fact that its gonna take time and money to get like the old days.

Rene, can't you run your 3 in the outlaw class?

I guess I have a different outlook on things nowadays. Yes, times have changed and there's less events and less money but really how much money did you guys make racing back when it was good? Lets face it, no one is going to get rich racing in amatuer race events. So knowing that, I just go out to have fun racing my car and trying to go faster and faster for my own personal goals and hang out with friends and family. And if I beat a couple of whinning crybabying Honda racers in the process that just makes it sweeter. It's better to go out and race for fun than have your race cars collecting dust in the garage. Anyways, I'm done with my motivational speeches. I hope to see you veterans and new guys at the tracks.

There is no outlaw in both IDRC or BOTI for a few years now....i have asked and its not on their book.

I used to make between 1k-5k for the big events back then....plus contingency.Mazda Motorsports(Mazdaspeed) will give me 1k on top of the 1st place winning.

i think the next event is BOTI Nov 21.......a one day event again.Hope they have a drift class like the IDRC event they payed 1k for first place ,not bad.It was the highest payed class of the weekend LOL...i had fun only cost me 50 bucks to race, had fun and no maintenance was the best cheapest weekend for me to race,I just wished i had more traction.

No one said drag racing was cheap, especially with your high roller setup. Gotta pay to play.

Like Rene said the next event is November 21. Its the Battle of the import finals at Fontana. Hope to see you there. I'lll be there.
