28" tall slick on factory 16" wheel????

Will it work? I know it will be close, especially on the launch
reason im asking, is both my buddies darrick and wilmer both switched to Hoosier slicks from M/t's and are cutting .2 better, now into the low 1.3's and they are AMAZED how stable on the big end they are. Time machines just destroyed the IRS record and said similar... so as much as i LOVE the big end wiggle if i can kill 2 birds with 1 stone, hey why not.
I know going to a 15” rim is the easy answer, but I’m cheap and buying another set of RIMS and tires is gonna tax the budget lol
Curious to see if its even worth exploring

Don't know if 28"s will fit the FD but I use to run 28s on the other first gen. Made around 40 10et passes like it was on a Sunday drive. The car was easy to drive and shift. My 60ft times were not so great, low 1.5s. Was easy on the launch, worried about breaking the stock trans. Wish I still had the 28s but cut one pretty bad with water got under the rear tires and the car hit the wall at 90mph. Now on a 26x10 MT slick with the new car and things are so 'violent' it's scary. Spinning at the top of every gear makes shifting difficult. Thinking of going back to a 28 tall tire but am going with a automatic instead. We'll trying to go with a automatic.

Ok since rubbing on the inside on the top is really no biggie since i can raise the car with the coilovers for race use.

Think i will cut some time with the 28s instead of the current 26/10.5/16 MT/etstreet. wanna change to 28/10,5/15 goodyear

What I was trying to say is, If your having to control wheel spin at the top of 3rd and 4th gear (26s) with the throttle, 28s are the way to go.
Weight of the car also plays a factor in wheel spin at the top of the gears. 2550lbs with me. Just installed a rear spoiler to help with down force at the big end.

As i dont have coilovers im thinking my solution may be to add bumpstops to the shocks.. should be hitting the track thursday, gonna do some marking on the shocks, and see if i can devise a way to see how close the 26's come to the top of the wheel well, I alredy know/am in process of rolling the fenders.
Its really interisting when you compare the sizes of the M/T's to the Hoosiers, and look at the contact patch, And having 3 people remark how much better one brand of tire is compared to what we all ran for years is hard to ignore....

If you are talking slicks I have no clue but you could run some 27's in mt et streets! That's what I am eyeing. Now I know there was a car on here running 28's but he had to flare the fenders. Let me find the thread and bump it up for u.

To stop the wheel spin in the top of each gear, went with a 28 x 10 Hoosier slick. Old tires were 26 x 10 ET slicks. Well no more wheel spin but the trans said hell no and spit out third gear at 7500/8000rpms.
Going to install another turboII trans and try it again. Maybe this trans was just getting weak.

Like I said, dont know if 28s will fit a FD. But the 28s did solve my wheel spin at the top of the gears.

Wish I new what rims size I needed to fit 28" on an FC without hacking or tugging it to hell. Just gonna have to go with 27" on a 15" wheel I guess
