Read on :D, he corrected himself (why anyone would do this rather than editing the original post is beyond me).

Btw guys...his car is AUTO so no fear...the power is SPOT ON. Remember the auto cars only have 210bhp not 247. . . . Oh wait...now he's saying he has a manual tranny. . .

In all the mag tests they were using prototype cars thast supposedly had a problem. There is a set of ports that open up at 6250rpms and supposedly they werent coming on. I wonder if that is still a problem? Did the dyno go flat around 6250? Thats what was happening to the prototype cars. They were saying it was causeing them to be right at 30rwhp low. Interesting how 15% drive loss would put output to around 204 and this guy at Pettit dynoed 173 which is 31rwhp low.

Maybe his 6250rpm intake port wasnt opening up.

True, but the owner seems to be somewhat sensible/knowledgeable. I think he would have jumped on that explination if the sheet went flat or fell off. Even if he is oblivious I imagine Cam or one of the other guys at Pettit would have recognized that problem.

Anyone want to call Pettit and find out what their take is? I would but I'm out of daytime minutes and not in the market for a rx8.

Dont forget the RX-8 is available in TWO power levels
210fwhp & 248fwhp - either is available w/ the 6 spd
but auto is only available w/ the 210hp motor

He has the 6 port 6 speed.

How do you open up these "sets of ports" based on rpm?

I'm curious since the intake ports are part of the rotor housing.

the exra ports are opened via a stepper motor on the manifold ... its very similar to the old 6 port sleeve arrangement.

one thing that sparked my intrest is something i have seen able ibara do for years and he told me a long time ago that it was for space (which i believed at the time). anyone ever see how he (on BOTH the r100 and the FD) make the TB face the front of the car and have the *elbo* face the TB that way? do you knwo what i am saying? i dont know if they both know something i am not aware of, or if mazda designed it that way to have the volume of the smaler *plenum* made up by lengthening the runners AND for space???
note: (i have not done any testing to see the difference of volume, just quick observations that the 8's looked smaller overall)

i hope some of that made sence....

sorry this is a bit off topic. i coppied it from another post/forum but thought since this was an active thread... :)

Actually its nope to you :). Few drivers are good enough to pull off high 13 second timeslips in a stock FD. VERY FEW.. They run low 14's stock even if your a good driver.

They were rated at a 13.9 stock for the RX-7 and a 14.5 stock for the 6 speed RX-8.
