which water temp gauge?

I am looking for a water temp gauge for my FD. I dont know which one to get though. Electronic or Mechanical? My understanding is that you dont want mechanical water temp gauges because it might break and squirt hot water all over you. I will probaly get an autometer because it is cheap and it doesnt look too crappy. Anybody have suggestions?

thanks

I prefer electronic... keeps all the fluids and stuff out of the cockpit.. plus you can get peak/hold and warning.. I think their worth the money..

mechanical has a hose with coolant running from your engine into your gauge. electronic has a sending unit in your engine bay and a wire running into your gauge.

it seems that the electronic gauge is a better choice, but I have seen mechanical gauges cost more $$$.... this is what confuses me.

please correct me if i am wrong anybody.

I got a VDO electronic, and I am happy with it. It doesn't have any special features, although you can get a temp sender that will trigger a warning buzzer at various temperatures. It appears to be very accurate and looks almost exactly like stock in the daytime. The main downside is the illumination is kind of cheap looking, just a single white light at the top of the gauge that shines down, looks very old school, but the gauge and sender are a good price (check www.egauges.com) so I can't complain.

Go with the SPI Water temp gauge. Looks like the stock gauges and is very accurate.
