nah I didn't wrap the exhaust only b/c I hear it will hold in moisture and deteriorate the pipes.

More results of the Wastegate Mods

So I did all this work to eliminate high boost and now I can't get my car to boost over 8 lbs (well I fixed the problem but here;s the info)

I tested the actuator to see if it was holding and not leaking. It tested ok. and I tested it to see when the wastegate would start to crack open and be fully open. It seemed to crack open around 5lbs and then it was completely open around 8lbs. Give or take.

this is backwards....

Solution->
I had to attach a spring to the actuator arm to give the arm more tension. I have 2 theories on what may have been happening to prevent my boost from rising:

Question->
1. the wastegate was opening early (even with a manual boost controller on it? turned all the way up?) and even though the flapper was only slightly open it was enough to allow substantial gases to pass.

2. Because I tapered the intake ports of the wastegate tubes, the exhaust gases were pushing so hard that they were poshing the door open. <-I dont know about that one. Do the exhaust gases have enough pressure to force a wastegate open?

I dunno

Here's an update.

I installed a spring to hold the plunger shut with greater force. I went through a trial and error period and found out that I need a damn stiff spring. It worked!!!!!

I can actually use my boost controller now to do what it is supposed to do.... CONTROL BOOST. I got it turned down now to ~7 psi. I can raise it when I go to the track. And the boost comes on rapidly because of the ball and spring type MBC that I am using (Hallman).

I guess that the exhaust pressure is enough to force open the wastegate flapper, therefore a greater force is needed to keep it shut (ie: the additional spring).

What a learning experience this was!

think you could give us a more vivid picture or idea of exactly where you put the stiffer spring?
