Waste spark info

Hey folks. Just some info. I have been having trouble figuring out why one of my trailing coils is firing intermittantly and the other not at all. I have an MSD DIS 2 connected to the trailing coils. Come to find out I had the dip switch for the waste spark set to "on". (bank 1 switch 4) Turned it off and voila! Perfection...

Well ixnay that. the trailings are once again not working today. I did some tests and the T2 trigger wire is not putting out a signal. Any ideas?

How many signal lines com out of the "crank angle sensor"? Are you tapped into those lines, or do you run of the CPU signal?

There is mostly no signal (peppered with an intermittent weak signal) coming down my Trailing #2 trigger wire from my Haltech E6A. The signal from the Trailing #1 is fairly solid, but it does sputter. My CDI's, wires, coils, and plugs test OK. The leading signal is strong. I interchanged the 2 MSD 8509 Magnetic Signal Stabilizers and there was no change. I thought one might have gone bad from some water damage. From the wiring diagrams it appears that from the crank angle sensor 4 wires come out and go 2 each to the MSS's. Out of one MSS goes the trigger signal wire to the haltech and of the other goes the home signal wire to the haltech. Out of the haltech goes the one leading and two trailing trigger wires. Does the haltech itself take the one trigger input and split it into the leading and trailing outputs? Where do you think the problem is coming from?

One thing I noticed on the T1 wire (the T2 is still not working) With the waste spark set to OFF (like I thought in the beginning of this post) the T spark stops over 2000-ish rmp! With it ON, it maintains spark all the way up.... Whoops :P

I assume your car is running properly on the leading coils.
The cank angle sensor inputs to the Haltech seems to be ok since it knows when to fire your leading coil without any issues.

I do not remember all the features of the DIS2 but I will take a stab at it.
I assume you have channel 1 hooked up to T1 and channel 2 to T2.
Why don't you switch the channels(both inputs and outputs) on the DIS2 and see if channel 2 works. Channel 2 will now be on T1. If T1 still works you will know that both channels check out on the DIS2 and you may have a problem with the output from the Haltech.
Good luck.

I tested the DIS 2 a couple ways. First, I disconnected the 2 trigger signal wires and tapped each to a ground. It sparked A-ok. Next, I recognized that the Trigger 1 input is the one that controls the Tach output. When I connected the Trigger 2 from the haltech to the trigger 1 input, the tach did not work. That's when I realized that the Haltech is simply not putting out a T2 signal...

OK I have answers.
As far as the waste spark, I read the instructions again, and when the switch is ON it fires on every rotation. When the switch is OFF, it fires on every other rotation. I think this makes itself clear...
As far as the HALTECH, the HITman helped me figure that one out! With my setup, I have to (on the E6A) set on the ignition page DIRECT FIRE. Every coil now fires properly. I was confused because everything I read told me to set it to Distributor. Anyways...
