This thread is about 'unbreakable' apex seals.

I thought aviation seals are "super seals" with the aviation name on them ?

talk about them

Was thinking about using some high dollar custom coating. This is the same they use on the Space Shuttle. I wouldn't want to warp my racing seals.

They use ceramics on both the space and 1/4 mile land shuttles so no need for coating.:)

thanks for the lesson there, pops :hahano:

Weither they bend or break it's the same result right- rebuild time? The only advantage I see with the one's that bend is that they might save some internal components- housing/rotors right?

Why would anyone buy these (PTS) when you can get ceramics for about the same price, or a little more.

I'm looking for the post where the motor showed good compression even with the broken ceramic apex seal.

EDIT:

I've been reading this thread along with the NRS one so I can know what exactly is the way to go. Keep it up. Good reading.

How can you have good compression with a broken apex seal? Maybe if it was cracked in half and both the apex pieces were still in the apex groove then it might pass a compression test, but a piece totally broken off and missing, no way.

slo 01-15-08 12:04 AM

For my money its NRS ceramics, with methanol injection proper tuning (based on knock detection, EGT, AFR and power output) correct heat range spark plugs, a haltech E8 (in future will upgrade to platinum system) with the correction maps tuned to prevent knock in the event of system failure's, and a knock lite with an output connected to the haltech trims for fuel and ignition set up to increase fuel and decrease advance in the event of knock.

phoenix7 01-15-08 12:14 AM

of course not, I was merely showing how the housing(s) did not get damaged as was stated above.
