Ex fd *****
Hood shake is caused by a poorly adjusted hood latch - adjust the latch to hold the hood down tighter - when I lowered the latch abt 1/16" my hood shakes completly dissapeared.
Oh abt 150 is my personal best and around 178-182 (drag limited) is max for a stock fd

I hit 140 a few weekends ago at MADS (windows down). Had just shifted to 5th, so it should have had plenty left. You guys see your hood shaking at those speeds? A little disconcerting...
Plus, as one person alluded to, these are INDICATED speeds. I've read that speedos aren't calibrated for anywhere above about 70 so they start getting pretty far off on the top end.
Get yourself a track day, Piston Pete. Can't beat long wide straightaways with no cops to worry about. Quick triple digit squirts are one thing, but I personally don't trust my tires enough to go barrelling down some two-lane backroads pushing for top speed. Maybe I'm just a puss....

152 here in a somewhat modded 93 touring.
The previous owner supposedly got my car up to 175, but at 152 I ran out of road.
I recently had a tire go flat from balding, so I'm afraid to go fast again for fear of a tire blowing out. If my tires are almost bald, what would some cheap and good replacements be that would do well street racing?

If you want a fairly good way to accurately verify top speed try using a handheld gps. Even a cheap one like my Garmin eTrex has a readout for speed in MPH. You can also reset top speed and it will recall the highest speed attained since the last reset. The only thing is you must hold the top speed for at least a few seconds. Reaching the top and immediately shutting down will not return the highest speed since the gps has not yet had a chance to recompute.

145 mph before I let up....was stock then, except for rear spoiler. I noticed the back hatch start to chatter, but the rear end was solid. It felt like the undercarriage was rock solid, but the body was a little shaky. I mean, it felt like a poltergeist was in the car.
I then took it to get new tires and found a little bend in the inner aspect of a rear rim. This corresponds to the rattling it does when I hit the brakes hard too (the discs are not warped). So, I think that was the problem.
Other than that, I was not scared at all. You can get to 120 without even noticing it and feel like you're going 80 as compared to other cars.
Now, my 84 GMC p/u with a 502 HO and 3.73 gears will get to about 135-140 in a blink of an eye (estimate, since the speedo only goes to 85!!!). It is scary though, because even though it is a solid truck, it is anything but aerodynamic. It feels like body panels are going to start flying off.
The FD just slices through. I think it is happiest at a cruising speed of about 110-120.

Constant threat
158 is my personal record, I often take it to 140 just for grins. Keep in mind that I live in VERY rural area, where one can drive for 10 minutes or more and never see another car.
The above is NOT recommended for any sort of traffic situation.

Bridgestone S03, check them out at www.TireRack.com. They are worth every penny. I personally have the Firehawk SZ50 EP which are rated real close to the S03 but last longer and they are great!
Rich, you are one crazy *** ^&%*#@*, damn I want my Tanabe coilovers!
FD's do not like cheap/shitty tires. Spend your money where it really counts.

too fast
i love to drive fast but at the speeds you guys are talking, if something goes wrong-with no rollcage there won't be much left to plant. i'm hoping to get a chance to run a bmw cca track event at michigan internatinal this summer. on friday, if there is sufficient interest, they open the oval for 3 lap top-speed runs. i have modest mops(dp, hf cat, cb, airbox, springs) but would love to see 165 in this enviroment.
