T-56 transmission

A guy I know says he can make a T-56 6 speed work in my '93 rex. If this is no B.S. (I read on another site that it has been done)what do you guys think? Another friend told me not to do it because people sometimes stay away from buying (if I ever decide to sell it) cars that have had that kind of work done to them. Any opinions.

There is a race shop in Cali that mates t-56 to first gen race cars, Crispeed once mentioned that the t-56 doesn't have a rev range suited for the high range rpm that the rotary makes, which will ultimatly break them down. In the past I wanted a somewhat bulletproof solution, one that I could have fun:P with my car with a safer piece of mind, without paying a $7000-10,000 pricetag for a HKS/Greddy 6 speed tranny. I estimated a modified t-56 solution was around $2500, durable to withstand up to 450 lb ft torque no probs and you get a 6th gear. I have never talked to someone who has it done, but assuming Crispeeds knowledge with racing, It was enough to steer me away from all the modification work involved.

Which shop is that? I have been looking for an adapter plate for my 20B.

Yes, Crispeed is correct. The T-56 will take a lot of torque, but it can't take high rev's. My 20B is a low-rpm engine with a redline similar to the V-8's found mated to the T-56, so I don't think that I will have a problem. However, if your engine has a redline above 7,500rpm, then you will need to get a "real" transmission. Oh yeah, and the T-56 shifts a little sloppy, especially at the higher rev's, but it's still a good buy for the torque capacity.

Yes, a T-56 will hurt the resale value of your car, but so will most other mods like single turbos, boost controllers, ECU's, cold air intakes, reduction pulleys, etc.

I tried doing a search for the link of the shop in my old posts, I couldn't find it. It was prolly before the forum got hacked...

That's great and all, but how about an adapter for those of us who actually use the steering wheel, and like to race for more than 12 seconds?
