Streetport or no?

The engine in my car bit the bullet (oil pump failure) and its at Rotary Performance in Garland, Tx getting torn apart. It was tuned there before and made 260whp had a great powerband. Mods are 60-1. power Fc, 1000cc Id sec, FMic, Denso pump, ect. My question is would it be worth while to go streetport with this power level in mind? Think its an extra 400.

There's really not any downside to getting a streetport, provided you don't have to do any emissions testing.

None. I was just going over the idea before deciding. 250-300whp is my goal.

You might as well get it done now that the engine is being rebuilt.Look at the bright side at least it's done and out the way.If you want to upgrade down the road and have higher HP#'s In mind atleast that's out the way.

I don't necessarily agree with the previous comments. It depends on your goals with the car. Only you can decide this. A street port can have a negative affect on turbo spool. It essentially moves your power band to the right which could be bad for a street car. However, you have a smaller single turbo so it might nit be as much of an issue. Guys have been making really nice usable power on the stock ports lately.

Do you have anymore info on your setup? 260whp seems a little low.

Car made 260 whp on 10 psi. Previous owner wanted the car tuned conservatively. The motor died not long ago due to oil starvation my best guess. Lots of bearing material in filter pedastal.

Mods:

Tial 38mm Wg
Tubular MAni
3'' Turboback
1000c secon
Rotary works 90mm TB

yes, stock ports can support big power. however, the engine is already coming apart, so now is the time to do it. assuming you're keeping the same basic setup (turbo, fuel, exhaust, etc.) and the ports are the only change, you should have the same or better response. since this is not a case where you're disassembling the engine just to port it, you should do it as long as you have an inkling to.

Because it moves your power to the right on the dyno. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Again, it depends on what you want the car to be best for.

I'd listen to silverTRD, he's pretty spot on.

Also, $3,500 for a rebuild due to bearing failure (oil starvation) isn't bad!! Unless they aren't replacing much, which would be bad

I tuned a car with stock ports and I have a street port. We have the same size turbo except mine is ball bearing. Mine flows better up top, his down low. I think the stock ports are good because something could go wrong with porting and mess with the seal interface. I would leave it stock if it is a street car and run a little more boost if you want more power.

Just MO. up to you.

Street ports tend to decrease the resale value...just something to keep in mind if you ever plan on selling the car.

What year engine is this? ports change depending on the year and so do their potential to make power.
